... U.S. President Donald Trump is set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska this week, an important location chosen for its neutrality and safety for the Russian leader. The significance of the venue is underscored by Putin's concern regarding an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) over alleged war crimes linked to Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine. The ICC's 2023 warrant centers on accusations that Putin ordered the transfer of hundreds of children from occupied Ukrainian territories to Russia. Entering any of the ICC's 125 member countries could lead to his arrest. However, since the United States does not recognize the court's authority, it stands as a safe option for Putin. This places the U.S. alongside nations such as Russia, China, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia in non-compliance with the ICC. ...

Location reminds me of those classic horror movies set in snowbound lab locations where something has gone terribly wrong and the characters there are killed off one at a time..... hey, I can dream, can't I?
Or perhaps the 10 hour flight will allow Zelenskyy to personally fly a missile into Vlad's Lolita Jet?
I'd be happy either way.
Heard a Russian dissident (Inside Russia) saying, a couple of times, that is was very odd that Vlad would take that long flight, especially when Coup Rumors are circulating in Moscow.
Trump is like a Prestige Pony to him among other Authoritarians that would also like to ride him.

"especially when Coup Rumors are circulating in Moscow."
That's how Khrushchev got the ax after President Kennedy forced the Russian ships to turn tail during the Cuban missile standoff.
The Kremlin waited a couple years until Khrushchev was out of town. When they called him back home, he wasn't President of Russia any more.
He spent the rest of his life under house arrest.

It would only take few actual patriots and a commercial airliner or three to fix this situation. Or make a start, anyway. Get these two and some of their underlings out of the way. The greater problems are VD Dunce, Little Mike Johnson, Russie Boy Vought, and Stephie Miller. They're all pretty dangerous, and need to be hung upside down from the Washington memorial.

At this point, let's take a step back and look at ...
What has Pres Trump given Pres Putin?
- - - Ukraine will not be allowed to join NATO. (given up before real negotiations even began)
- - - Pres Putin can keep the Ukraine territory it has seized via the unprovoked invasion.
- - - etc.
What has Pres Putin given Pres Trump?
- - - ... [crickets]
The Art of the Deal?
or, more likely ...
The Art of Surrender.

As usual, Trump came home empty handed ~ with only a deal to "set the table" (his words) for another meeting. Which is euphemism for ABJECT FAILURE.
I take it that Mr. Putin wasn't impressed with Trump's attempt to barter FUTURE military support for Russia's floundering invasion of Ukraine in exchange for the help Trump needs NOW to get his Nobel Peace prize.

The meeting is on FRIDAY
Trump is just preparing the public for failure by announcing in advance that his only intent is to "set the table" for a future meeting. My guess is that's he already floated the barter idea and knows Putin's response is negative.

Yeah, that recent back-tracking by Pres Trump is indicative of weakness, nothing more, nothing less, imo.
While I still continue to hope that Pres Trump will rise up and confront Pres Putin with the current events, I doubt that happening.

ICC-indicted war criminal Vladimir Putin praised Dummkopf Trumpf ahead of the Alaska Summit and is bringing a coterie of senior mandarins with him. As well as Putin's openly stated goal of subjugating Ukraine, he also wants to end Russia's exile from the Western financial system following economic sanctions imposed by Washington, the EU, and others. Trumpf has not yet lifted these punishments but has expressed a desire to end Russia's economic pariah status. The talks come as Ukraine marked a grim new record with 286 civilians killed and 1,388 injured in July. Reported a UN official: "For the second month in a row, the number of civilian casualties in Ukraine hits a new three-year high."

That's Zalensky's Achilles heel. That and being dependent on the traitorous mindset of Donald Trump and especially lily-livered accomplices in Congress who would sell their own country down the drain for fear of retaliation. There's not a GOP man-sack in the bunch. Right now, they're all just a bunch of frightened eunuchs, willing to go-along to git-along, the future of democracy be damned.
We might as well include the GOP members of the U.S. Supreme Court.

#18: Hi TwinPac: Yup, the GOP and the status quo dinosaurs have turned the US into a nuclear-armed banana republic led by a cult leader supported by sycophantic lickspittles, corrupt judges, and greedy oligarchs. The future of democracy be damned is right.
One wonders what all the Democrats from the previous administration are thinking right now as the country sinks faster than the Titanic. We know this one left the Democratic Party and she will have some story to tell in her book: www.rappler.com

#20, Alaska has a history of Presidential visits. Some ended badly
President Warren G. Harding, who became ill during a trip to Alaska in 1923 and died shortly after returning to San Francisco. While the exact cause of his death is debated, some theories at the time suggested it was related to tainted food, possibly shellfish, eaten during his trip.
Warren G. Harding's presidency is primarily remembered for the widespread corruption that occurred during his time in office. A Weak President, a number of scandals were exposed, including Teapot Dome, as well as an extramarital affair with Nan Britton, which damaged his reputation.

Trump has already set up an escape hatch from this meeting
He announced that if he doesn't hear what he wants from Putin within the first two minutes, he will walk out ~~ and hold his own press conference single-o.
Somebody has probably put a bug in Trump's ear that this meeting with Putin could be an embarrassing trap and he should be ready to bolt for the door.

Vlad's plane is just landing now. It will be a very short meeting. Mostly because Lewzer is not making any money from it when it's at an air force base rather than one of his golf courses.

#24: Hi TwinPac. Yup, this entire year Trumpf stalled and delayed for his BFFs: Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu. Those special envoy trips to Moscow and "shouting matches" was kabuki theater and ways to send each other messages. The Alaska summit finally lets Putin give Trumpf his instructions personally: d20aeo683mqd6t.cloudfront.net
And Vladimir Putin speaks English, he just doesn't like doing it publicly.

There's an air of Doom hanging over this meeting. Putin is arriving, not only with his own superior intellect and acute knowledge of the situation but with his battle worn staff of experts.
Trump, OTOH, is arriving woefully and intellectually inferior with his staff of newly minted, fresh from the vine, entourage of staffers who, if Trump runs true to form, are just along for the ride.
IOW, Trump does all the talking. Woe is us . . . or better said, Woe is the U.S.A.

I don't think Americans really understand what it means that Pooty was a KGB agent for 16 years. They are trained how to kill and are experts in psychological warfare and manipulation. Trumpy's training involves cheating contractors out of their money cheating on his taxes for 20 years and bankrupting casinos.

No agreements before this meeting and there will be no agreements made or kept after this meeting. Trumpy will get nothing from Pooty.
And the former KGB agent and war criminal is getting a nice tour and real good look at our military hardware and one of our critical military bases.
THIS IS NOT NORMAL.

We don't know what went on behind that closed door meeting, but it does appear that this whole summit thing (1 on 1 with Trump, red carpet, ride in the "Beast," etc.) was merely to boost Putin/Russia out of their isolationist reputation.
Trump did get one thing, though. At least the media isn't talking about Epstein while they're performing an autopsy in this fake summer meeting to confirm that Trump is the consummate dirty-trickster.
