... Chuck Borges, the SSA's Chief Data Officer (CDO), "has become aware through reports to him of serious data security lapses, evidently orchestrated by DOGE officials, currently employed as SSA employees, that risk the security of over 300 million Americans' Social Security data," the Government Accountability Project said in a letter sent today to members of Congress and the US Office of Special Counsel. The nonprofit Government Accountability Project is representing Borges.

Although it has been widely reported that DOGE sought and obtained access to Social Security records in its attempt to find evidence of fraud, the letter to lawmakers said the live copy of SSA's database hasn't previously been disclosed. DOGE's actions were taken "under the authority of SSA Chief Information Officer (CIO) Aram Moghaddassi" and violate SSA protocols and policies, the letter said. ...

In a statement provided to Ars today, the SSA denied storing data in an insecure environment and said it is not aware of any compromise. ...

@#1 ... it is not aware of any compromise. ...

Of course, SSA said it was not aware of a compromise.

Is it a compromise if the SSA did the alleged move of data?

The cloud is the compromise.

@#3 ... The cloud is the compromise. ...

Yup.

But my main question remains --- why is DOGE copying the SSA data *anywhere*?

To test code, typically you wouldn't use production data, but SSA might not have a "test" deatbase. You have never worked in IT have you?

To test their code, I'd say that the SSA has the appropriate tools and data available.

I have worked in IT.

But, has your current alias ever worked in reality?

Do try harder.

@#5 ... They're a bunch of f!!king imbeciles. ...

Yeah, that would be my first thought.

But, then, I'd have to be curious about the reason why a copy of the entire SSA database would need to be copied to some apparently insecure cloud service.

OK, let me ask the question once again, and bluntly ...

What is Pres Trump's justification for the alleged wholesale copying of SSA data to an apparent insecure cloud website?

As a taxpayer, I hope the cloud being used for illegal purposes FedRAMP approved.

No surprise here, except that whistleblowers are complaining to the press. It's very likely that the DOGE MUSK-eteers uploaded every single file they could from every agency they could and most of it maybe on the cloud we're sitting in some server in Iceland or the Arctic somewhere.

What better way to screw America in the American people then to upload every single bite of data on government information systems and then be able to secretly sell it to whatever adversary is willing to pay for that information, Treason from Putins best friend forever.

Thank you Siri for typing my comment. Now let me correct all of Siri's errors. Sorry I didn't proofread what Siri typed

While I may disagree with the details, overall, I agree.

Then there also seems to be the concern that I have mentioned in the past ...

What back-door access has DOGE left behind, and more importantly, who might have access to those back-doors, if they exist?

Asked differently, has DOGE given Pres Putin access to our government databases?

Hypothetically speaking, let's say I was building an AI and I also happened to be the richest person alive and an amoral sociopath who hold citizenship from multiple countries and no particular loyalty to any of them or to anyone. I might feel compelled to feed as much data into my AI as possible. I might believe that the type of info stored in government databases, especially that of the SSA, would give the AI an huge advantage over competing products while giving me info I could use against anyone who might try to challenge my authority and position as the richest person alive.

My file has had very limited access since December. Why? Because they are still processing an appeal review that was supposed to be completed in December 2024. It just sits there saying "In process, this review should take 15-30 days".

The problem is, I can't view anything on my file while it's 'in process'. I can't apply for benefits online, nothing. I have to either go to the office in person to do anything or by snail mail.

I've contacted Social Security and gotten nowhere. The 1800 number seems only to send you somewhere else. They can't take any action on their own. Useless. I have emailed them, faxed them, sent documents via Fed Ex to them. It still sits there. I finally turned to my lawyer and told him he needed to get involved.

Social Security wasn't great before but now it seems completely shut-down. Thanks RepubliDunces.
