Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, September 30, 2025

Jimmy Kimmel's return to late night wasn't quiet it exploded. His comeback episode on ABC pulled in 6.26 million viewers, his biggest audience in years. To put that in perspective, that's a 23 percent share of the entire late-night market, the kind of dominance not seen since Johnny Carson's days. Even more surprising, those numbers came despite a boycott that kept nearly a quarter of ABC affiliates from airing the show. The buzz was undeniable, with clips from the monologue racking up more than 14 million views online within hours. It was a free fall that underlined how much of his initial surge was fueled by curiosity rather than loyalty.

A few days later, the story shifted. By Thursday, Kimmel's audience had plunged to 2.3 million, a 64 percent drop from his big night. The decline was sharpest in the younger demographics TV executives prize most. Among adults 25"54, viewership sank from 1.7 million to just 465,000. The 18"49 demo, the lifeblood of advertising, fell from 1.2 million down to around 334,000.

Fascists focus in upon how popular Kimmel is, and have used his imagined unpopularity as an excuse to shut him down entirely.

Free Americans celebrate that he is freely on the air, saying things freely.

It really doesn't matter what Kimmel's ratings are. What matters is that he and millions of other Americans wouldn't bend the knew.

I was not at all surprised that hi ratings went down to the show's norm after his retur n to the airwaves.

My guess was that many folk tuned in to his return show to hear what he was going to say about Pres Trump's free-speech censorship. That was the big draw for that first show after his return.

Since then, his monologues are back to where they had been before the Trump censorship and the rating of his show are also back to where they were.

Like clockwork, JO 1 and JO 2 chime in. All I did was post a news article without comment. GDS is alive and well.

While people might have been against Kimmel's firing....it doesn't mean they like his show.

People watched to see if there would be more fireworks......looks like Kimmel is being a professional and moving on.

I hope it works out for him.

One night spike and then back to his low numbers which are approximate one-third of GUTFELD!'s numbers, though ABC has a much wider audience.

Kimmel could affect a much wider audience if he chose a few of the most biting remarks about Trump and moved on.

But he's been going on about Trump for over 10 years straight. Everyone has stopped watching, except the choir.

I also don't care for Kimmel because his entire comedy portfolio is deriding other people. It's all he's got. Again, sprinkle it in, and move on.

That doesn't mean the ludicrous overreach and overreaction by the Trump administration is justified. It actually makes it even more pathetic.
