Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, October 11, 2025

After reading that thread currently on the main page about Republican Christians denouncing the Hindi far right wing MAGA candidate for governor of Ohio, I thought this was important to post. A bit of sanity in the insane asylum known as America. Please take the time to actually listen to all that Hitchens has to say before commenting. You will find that you agree with him on most points even if you detest him personally. Chris Hitchens was far smarter and more articulate than any of you will ever be. (Except Boaz who is obviously far smart than all of us combined.) Hitchens provides a brilliant REALITY based view on God as worshipped throughout the entire world, not just the USA. I encourage you to listen. And try to think critically. Not the fairy tale of thinking "spiritually".

Having adopted most of Hitchen's outlook, I do concede that in times of sorrow, grief and misery, spiritual faith can give strength and peace to people in the times they need it most. I do not disdain faith in so far as it gives such strength and faith. I just have contempt for the absurdity and violent fairy tales that that faith and strength is founded upon.

I thought Ricky Gervais had a good quip on this. I think he was talking to Steven Colbert.
"People have believed in thousands of different gods over the course of history."
"Yes."
"You believe in one god."
"Yes."
"I only don't believe in one god less than you."
(paraphrasing)

Thread Video is from 18 years ago, amid the now defunct due to arrogance New Atheist Movement that turned off more people than it turned on.

John Lennox Gives His Honest Opinion On Christopher Hitchens

btw, all of Christianity isn't MAGAnite hypocrisy any more than were all Marxist atheists Stalin-esque mass murderers.

Everyone has some facts and some opinions, but a lot of people confuse the two... and believing that our reality is a result of eons of a mindless unguided process (see the 1 min short above) requires at least as much faith (which is not a religious word) as does the premise that the design we see in the universe (as in the Human Genome and the 'Laws' of physics)... has a mind behind it.

We all knew Corky would be chiming in. He did not even listen to the lecture.

I've seen it more than once over the years, and many other such debates including between Lennox and Dawson. It's not like you to whine like this and not even try to argue any of the Lennox positions I posted that you didn't watch... or any of what I said.

Plus... I have never said that it is somehow, 'idiocy' not to believe in God.

Such arrogant language is what made the New Atheists a failed movement.

"The claim that New Atheism is a failed movement is supported by arguments that it lacked a positive, cohesive worldview to offer, focused too much on criticizing religion, and underestimated the human need for meaning, community, and purpose that religion can provide.

Critics also point to the movement's perceived condescending tone, reliance on a few prominent personalities, and its failure to provide an alternative to religion beyond science and rationality, which do not address many existential questions."

Having seen your posting and how you treat people here you don't agree with, one can only assume Hitchens is a fascist idiot.

But as a lawyer, you are good at arguments and we hold a lot of opinions in politics and culture in common, M8.

If you get chance, perhaps you can take a look at this video with transcript, though the video images are enhancive, that describes predictions that seemly only fit one Donald J. Trump:

Let me know your opinion on this multitude of happy accidents.... in the video, of course, not the ones that are required to form our current reality from billions of mindless unguided processes.

Hitchens was honest in his opinions if a bit harsh in his observations of others opinions; the first link in #3 has Lennox crediting his veracity... although he didn't think much of Dawkins after catching him in several, um, intentional mistakes.

Hitchens had a pretty brutal takedown of Jerry Falwell.

Hitchens was a genius.

So is Niels Tyson DeGrasse. You should hear what he has to say about religion. Especially within a scientific perspective.

That's just the other side of the coin of people who say Christ is working through Trump.

It's funny how you can say one side of the coin is fake, but think the other side of the same coin is real.

Honestly it's borderline mental illness to think that way.

Border line mental illness is funny?

It must be kinda like that coin where some atheists are Stalin or Mao or Pol Pot, and some are not so much.

Here's a young atheist that debates theists all the time, respectfully, unlike the old New Atheists.

Here he is with John Lennox

Only if you agree that Christ is Lord and there is only one true God. The Christian God. And He rules America like He rules the Universe.

THEN we can all agree to "agree to disagree" on whatever else you want.
