... In early October, several Trump administration officials had a friendly pool going of how long the shutdown would last. The White House, at the time, was confident Democrats would quickly fold.

No one guessed more than 10 days.

The account, relayed by a person close to the White House granted anonymity to discuss internal thinking, underscores just how much the administration miscalculated the Democrats' will to keep the government closed even amid furloughs and imperiled social programs like food assistance.

As the shutdown heads into its second month, President Donald Trump is increasingly frustrated. On Thursday, he called for Republicans to abolish the filibuster to reopen the government -- a plea he knows is futile, but that demonstrates his growing irritation with Democrats, said a second person close to the White House.

"Trump, he's had it with these people, because he knows they're playing politics," said the second person. "Nobody thought it was going to last this long."

When the shutdown began, White House officials were certain the Trump administration was better positioned to battle the left during a funding lapse.

Trump and his top aides thought that unpaid federal workers, closed and limited federal facilities and threats of ever-more job cuts from Russ Vought, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, would be too much for Democrats to handle.

They were buoyed when two moderate Democrats -- Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and John Fetterman (D-Pa.) -- and Independent Angus King voted with Republicans two days into the shutdown.

But not much has changed since, and it is almost certain that this will be the longest shutdown in history, surpassing the record set during Trump's first term. ...

More from that article ...

... Did Trump say the president should be blamed for a government shutdown?

In April 2011, leaders of both parties came to an agreement following weeks of difficult negotiations and ultimately averted a government shutdown, as recapped by President Barack Obama. Trump spoke about a potential shutdown ahead of their agreement in an interview with Meredith Vieira on NBC's "Today" show.

A recording posted to Vimeo by Roll Call Factbase shows Trump said the following: "In my opinion, I hear the Democrats are gonna be blamed, I hear Republicans are gonna be blamed, I actually think the president would be blamed," he said. "If there is a shutdown ... I think it would be a tremendously negative mark on the president of the United States.

He's the one that has to get people together." ...

So, why has Pres Trump been working so hard to apparently divide the Country, calling those who disagree with him enemies of the Country?

Because he doesn't give a ---- about the country. He just wants headlines, money, and trophies for himself.

That is painfully obvious.

And Putin thought Ukraine was a ----- cat. It turned out to be willing to fight and perhaps die on the hill of independence from Russian gangsters.
Still, chaos works for Trump, as does that darkness that comes in the night and takes away your job, your housing, your food, and along the way it creates deadly wars all over the place.

What a deal artist our king is, telling his toadies to not negotiate with the opposing side, but instead just change the rules--so much simpler! I guess simpletons like to keep it simple. Anyway, complex negotiations get in the way of a golf game...

They have made it clear. They do not view Democrats as "the opposing side".

They view them as the "enemy within".

Trumptilians have a terrible track record of negotiating with "enemies".

There is an expiration date on the House passed bill of 11/27/2025. At that point, the House will have to reconvene to pass something to replace it. The shutdown will probably extend to that point. That way, both dems and repubs can save face that they didn't cave. Furthermore, NEGOTIATIONS for an end to the shutdown will have occurred by then with the reconvening of the House the first step in the resolution of the problem.

Repubs would have had to address the ACA premium hikes by the end of the year anyway. The dems have played it in such a way as to get credit for the resolution and painting the repubs as the villains that caused the premiums to escalate.

@#11 ... the Government that feeds you can starve you ...

Especially if MAGA is the majority in Washington, as it seems that MAGA does not care about the suffering of the non-wealthy. Indeed MAGA seems to revel in such suffering.
