One day during his first term, Donald Trump summoned a top aide to discuss a new idea. "Trump called me down to the Oval Office," John Bolton, national security adviser in 2018, told the Guardian.

"He said a prominent businessman had just suggested the US buy Greenland."

"It was an extraordinary proposal. And it originated from a longtime friend of the president who would go on to acquire business interests in the Danish territory.

Like many of those around the president, Lauder's policy suggestions appear to intersect with his business interests. As Trump has ratcheted up his threats to seize Greenland, Lauder has acquired commercial holdings there.

Lauder is also part of the consortium whose desire to access Ukrainian minerals appears to have spurred Trump to demand a share of the war-torn country's resources."

"He said a prominent businessman had just suggested the US buy Greenland."

I see we've evolved from buying it, to simply taking it by force.

This is like a conversation with a hooker where you threaten rape if she won't accept your money to do unspeakable things.

*** Democratic Senator John Fetterman is OK with US Attacking Greenland; CBS News Concurs ***

John Fetterman (D-PA) wants to bomb Iran as well and doesn't give a lick about the Palestinian people.

The Democratic Party I knew last century would defend the underdog.

All 435 Congressmen and 35 (out of 100) Senators are up for re-election on Tuesday 3 Nov 2026.

On Election Day, progressives and antiwar Samaritans won't be voting for any warmongers within the Democratic Party.

They will stay home in disgust.

John Fetterman is up for re-election in 2028.

#7 What in heaven's name have you got against "money lending."

Few Americans have the cash to buy a car, and especially a home (you know, the American dream).

So, they take out a loan.

So, what have you got against Americans wanting to own a home or a ca?

Doesn't make sense.

Greenland and current ICE activities are nothing but a temporarily successful distraction.

@#9 ... Greenland and current ICE activities are nothing but a temporarily successful distraction. ...

Agreed.

But in the case of Greenland, Pres Trump probably thinks it is a good way to destroy NATO.

Omg! The USA is going rogue! Under Trump, America is losing allies and the tight network of market-driven democracies is unraveling as the others see America's "America First" identity as hypocritical, because it spends too much effort supporting Moscow's desire to resubjugate Russia's former Soviet satellites, and cozying to Putin's kleptofascist ideals.

In the same vein, its seems that Trump has been influenced by one of Putin's most admired influencers, Alexandr Dugin, who believes that a Russia autocracy should dominate Eurasia, and America should collaborate with Moscow to dominate the North & South American 1/3 of the globe. If this is true, Putin-adoring Trump is only buying into the same playbook that Putin is playing by.

@#11 ... the tight network of market-driven democracies ...

I am reluctant to agree that the allies of te US were "market-driven."

I'd view them as more "democracy-driven."

i,e,, NATO, probably the best alliance this planet ever has seen, was more about peace-thru-strength than markets.

Europe isn't Democracy driven.

It has horrible freedom of press, and any semblance of Democracy is destroyed by the dismantling of rival popular parties.

NATO, probably the best alliance this planet ever has seen,

Only if the US keeps paying. If the US stops paying for example the Germans could only send 37 soldiers to Greenland, and that was with using a chartered airliner from Poland. Then two days later they had to send them back ...

NATO is a paper tiger without the US. Your vision is filtered and what you're looking at, is potemkin village.

was more about peace-thru-strength than markets.

No it wasn't, isn't that the term Reagan coined?

Nato is "A mind unfettered in deliberation" ironically it means members should speak freely and without undue influence or passion when making important decisions.

Something clearly missing these days by Natos Eurotrash.

@#13 ... Only if the US keeps paying ...

So your current trolling alias apparently agrees that NATO probably is the best alliance this planet ever has seen. As I noted.

And that is why Pres Trump seems to be actively trying to destroy NATO.
