In the film Mad Max, an oil shortage leaves Australian society teetering on the brink of total collapse. In real-life, things aren't quite that dystopian yet Down Under. But with barely a month of stockpiled diesel left and hundreds of forecourts running dry, the anxiety is palpable.

I would say the Australian government left the Australian society on the brink of collapse.

Aviation experts have long warned of the susceptibility of Australia to jet fuel disruption. For example, the Sydney Airport's chief executive officer, Scott Charlton, has indicated Sydney is completely reliant on jet fuel imports and has no refinery capacity.

No dramas- as someone who lived in Australia for 16 glorious months in my mid-20s I will say that as long as they still have a way to get pissed they'll be fine.

Australia is kind of like Israel. Both are very hot places and both are full of very white people- that's how you know they are completely indigenous to the land.

/trenchant sarcasm.

Swing and a miss..... Australia has significant oil and gas formations in their country. They also skimped on refining.

So I will say it again..... Going green has it's advantages.

Whut? How does significant oil and gas formations and skimping on refining have anything to do with going green?

LOL Are you paid to solicit responses here?

They once has 8 refineries now it's down to 2. Why??? I mean, at this point they pay other countries to refine oil and send it to them..

This was going to happen sooner or later, It's been talked about for years.

We're also closing in on a bottleneck here in the US. We've lost 3 major refineries in the last 4 years.

Actually #20 isn't factually correct, its 4 refineries, not 3.

I forgot about Valero, Benicia.

You came to a discussion site and you're complaining that I'm discussing?

I'm trying to understand the connections between the words you type. Frequently, they just seem to be soundbites that have no connection to your other statements in the same comment.

Plenty of nations don't have oil or refineries but had a steady supply of fuel. You pretending this has nothing to do with Trump and results from a failure to go green is predictable given your political leanings, though.

From the article: "Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz has stifled one fifth of the world's supply of oil. Much of this goes to the Asian refineries that supply Australia. Now, they're running short."

They are all looking on how to get out of the State, the only profitable entity is the State via $0.61 per gallon profit.

The issue is that the State loses out on the other companies/revenue/employment that use the byproducts of the refinery process.
