Sidney Blumenthal: The Republicans have no instinct for separation from Trump, no will to stage an intervention, no ability to muster an ultimatum. They have been complicit in their captivity, co-conspirators in their demise.

There is no one in the Republican leadership who would ride down Pennsylvania Avenue to deliver the news that a "committee to save America" must be imposed over Trump to save the party. The Republicans would rather self-destruct than attempt to rescue themselves.

More: Donald Trump wins, Republicans lose. The Indiana primaries on 5 May, in which five of seven Trump-backed candidates ousted stalwart conservative Republican state legislators who had refused his command to redraw congressional districts, has been the only victory Trump can claim recently. Indiana, happily for him, is not Iran. His appeal still prevails at least over the increasingly narrow band of Maga voters. But the persistence of Trump's domination is a sign of mounting haplessness. His victory is an augury of repudiation. Maga devotion is hardening in response to his dwindling popularity, a telltale reaction of true believers to a failed prophesy. The cult survives, the party withers.

On the same day the Indiana Republicans went down to defeat to sate Trump's vengefulness, a Democrat won a bellwether Michigan state senate seat by 20 points in a district that Kamala Harris carried by less than a point. The bell tolls for thee.

The Republicans have no instinct for separation from Trump, no will to stage an intervention, no ability to muster an ultimatum. They have been complicit in their captivity, co-conspirators in their demise.

The GOP expects to cheat and steal and therefore win, just like Trump expects to cheat and steal and win.

It's a zero-sum game devoid of competence or policy, and of course democracy.

And if that doesn't work, they'll turn to violence again.

These 'people' have gone along with racist redistricting, ICE terrorists, war mongering and war worshipping, Trump Family and Friends Financial Scams, 100's of thousands of African children starved to death and healthcare ripped from Americans... and a whole lot more.

No one should think they are going to stop now; they'd rather be dead than wrong.

Never deny the power of the incumbency on the local/state level. Voters have a really hard time accepting that their own representatives are part of the problem. Otherwise we wouldn't have so many yahoos routinely returned to office.

Starting in the spring of 1945 quite a few European fascisti expats found Argentina's Bariloche and Villa General Belgrano suitably ... forgiving.

I've been thinking that the Argentine Alps might be a nice place to sit out the coming Apocalypse.

JC, after all, did say that when 'the abomination appeared' that we should, 'head for the mountains!".

And the Abominable Orange Man seems fit the bill.

Of course, they too have an 'anarcho-capitalist' in power there.

Shrimptacodan do you ever get tired of gargling Trump's balls with a second course meal of Netenyahu? Have the the day and gas prices you voted for. If Iran didn't have a nuke before, they definitely will get one after we realize we lost this war.

Republicans would rather a pregnant woman die, than allow her get a medically needed abortion.

This is just who these people are.

Immolating yourself for MAGAFuehrer is showing ultimate love for MAGAFuehrer.
The reward?
Zip, nada, ugatz.
Suckers and losers, one and all.

Unfortunately, so many people have made MAGA and/or Trump such a part of their identities (especially their online and social media identities) that they don't want to suffer the ego death of admitting they were conned and that Trump is a complete disaster. It's bad enough for this to happen once, but several of these are "three time losers." That's gotta hurt.

As a result, the whole world gets to suffer.

Gotta keep the donors happy. And they're getting increasingly desperate.

Nothing gets fixed in this country without Campaign Finance reform.

"Johannes Hentschel, the master electro-mechanic for the [Fuhrer]bunker complex, stayed after everyone else had either left or committed suicide, as the field hospital in the Reich Chancellery above needed power and water. He surrendered to the Red Army as they entered the bunker complex at 09:00 on 2 May [1945]."

Hi Doc Sarvis

1955 and 1956 were seminal years to learn about the inner workings of the Third Reich.

The Nazi underlings like you mentioned were finally released from Soviet gulags after serving their ten year sentences.

Their memoirs and interviews became a fount of personal information and Sir Anthony Hopkins jumped at the role of playing Der Fuhrer when one of those books became a made-for-TV film in the late 1970s or early 1980s.

Yup, Coriolanus, remember it well. Along the way, a German barber I encountered ages ago in AZ had served on the "Eastern Front" in a "special group" until captured at Stalingrad. He was released in the 1950s from some Far Eastern gulag and told he could find he own way home. An Austrian friend's father ended up with the Wehrmacht at Stalingrad. As the ring tightened, he wrote letters home with detailed accounts of imaginary meals because he was starving to death. Then nothing. Later, after the war, the family was told by one of his mates the guy was killed, by another captured. In the early 1050s my friend accompanied his mother to Vienna's main train station whenever the radio announced another batch of repatriated POWs chugging in from the East on the off-chance his dad might be among them. His father never appeared. (Soviet POWs in German hands had almost no chance at all.)
