In upstate NYS I saw a child working in a McDonald's (I frequent the Mac Shacks for coffee, smokes, and latrine).
More people will be selling blood or plasma to make ends meet and businesses are cutting corners to survive.
At a fast food chain I ordered a meal for $15 or $17 and the plate was all "filler" and garnish with a tablespoon of cold slaw in a tiny white cup.

When driving around upstate NYS, one notices more prisons than hospitals.
Both are probably the best employment opportunities in hard times.
Upstate NY is also MAGA territory and their economy is hit by less Canadians coming down to spend their money.
