The deal between the US and Saudi Arabia to help the Gulf kingdom develop nuclear energy is dependent on Riyadh recognising the State of Israel, President Donald Trump has said.

"Rosemary Kelanic, the director of the Middle East programme at the US-based Defense Priorities think tank, said it would be "quite shocking" if the US were to allow Saudi Arabia uranium enrichment facilities.

"The US has never done that before. We have never helped another country enrich on their own soil," she said, adding that this was because "if you can produce your own nuclear fuel, you become a much bigger risk" for building nuclear weapons."

Saudis? Israel? It's like when he can't decide between Ivanka and a lookalike.

The man on the street in the Middle East does not like the Israelis, particularly after their current pogrom which has liquidated 75,000 Palestinians in Gaza.

People in non-democratic Egypt and Jordan do not like the Israelis, but the mukhabarat keep a tight lid on them and dissent in general.

This is the price those regimes pay for annual American taxpayer largesse of billions of dollars.

Recognize Israel and keep the peace, to heck with your angry population.

This is called "baksheesh."

The non-democratic Saudi regime faces a similar dilemma. While some of their wealthy oligarchs want to make money with Israeli hi-tech and security firms, the man on the Jeddah street does not like the Israelis.

And Saudi Arabia has a Shia minority of two to two and half million supplicants (10-15% of their population) who are at the bottom of their caste system. They are called "fishermen" or something perjorative like that because they live mainly by the coast.

A surefire way to increase instability in Saudi Arabia would be for Muhammad Bone Saws to recognize Israel.

A Palestinian I know has no problem with Jews but despises the murderous Israelis. "OB" saves his most vocal vituperation for the hypocritical Saudis, a regime that plays lip service to peace and last year executed 356 poor Ethiopians or Somalis caught for drug smuggling -- something the Saudi population wants under the table.

This is just more white supremacy talking ...

The US and Europe have been "trading" enriched uranium since the 1960s.

Oh but now the US can't trade with the brown man ..

Egyptians are Islamic, they don't like any other religion, their slaughter of Christians is well documented.

All your anti-israel talk is just rubbish. The ME is Islamic and it hates any other religion. Corky's support for the religion is caused by a disease.

The big question is, does giving a bunch of Arabs nuclear weapons qualify you for the Nobel Peace Prize?

- Link?

He doesn't have one... because there isn't one. He's just farting through his teeth yet again.

And the 'supremacy' he believes in is that of the Corrupt Authoritarian States, like the one he's plans to give his DNA to Security when he finally goes back to China... you know, where Authoritarian Worshippers like him belong.

Nobel Peace Prize?

Trump wants the Nobel War Prize.

Trump wants the Nobel War Prize.

I think you have to actually win a war to get that one.

This is just another example of why any deal with Pedo47 in office is meaningless.

The deal was signed. Now he is adding additional terms to it.

He has done this his entire life.

Why anyone believes a word that comes out of this lying corrupt piece of --- is beyond me.

America really is this stupid.

The good news is that one day a mortician will get the privilege of super gluing that mouth shut.

Donald Trump made a nuclear deal that he sabotages immediately.

He sets fires to the drapes and then beats out the flames.

It's all his sick, sick, sick need for attention.

I think that the mortician should leave Trump's mouth wide open, for realism.

Why do I get the feeling that it was not included in the treaty?

It is more of an "oh... by the way?" from a safe-distance negotiation.

Trump's Saudi Nuclear Deal Fiasco May Finally Push Ally to China and Russia
www.newsweek.com

... President Donald Trump's decision to impose a heavy post-deal condition on a landmark agreement that would see the United States support Saudi Arabia in establishing a civilian nuclear program has threatened to tank the deal and push the longtime U.S. partner to explore separate arrangements with China and Russia.

Trump's declaration Thursday that the U.S.-Saudi agreement could only proceed if the Kingdom were to join the Abraham Accords, effectively normalizing ties with Israel, came less than 24 hours after both nations announced the deal.

The new clause, later reinforced by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, is widely viewed as a non-starter within Saudi Arabia, which has consistently held that diplomatic relations with Israel would be explicitly contingent on a roadmap for Palestinian statehood.

"Any normalization must be preceded by recognition of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Saudi initiative approved by the Arab Summit in Beirut," Mohammed al-Sabban, a former senior adviser to the Saudi minister of energy, told Newsweek. ...
