SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- California energy regulators have approved new rules that will phase out some replacement tires sold in the state that do not meet energy-efficiency requirements. The standards target replacement tires that fail to meet the new efficiency requirements. State regulators say the changes will help drivers save money on fuel over time. Tire manufacturers, however, argue the rules could increase upfront costs for consumers by hundreds of dollars.

This pretty amazing, I could understand how you might argue about rubber pollution, but energy efficiency? idk man, then there are so many waivers.... On top of that it took almost 25years to implement.

You can get +4% mpg with good tire selection. That's really good.

Careful there, sitz. You're sounding like Obama.

Most consumer tires already meet the requirements, and there are exceptions for specialty tires.

Good.

In my state you can't use studded snow tires after April 1st because of the damage they due to the blacktop in the warmer weather.

Commie Spyboy Wannabe needs to immigrate from California to another state. ASAP.

He is not safe here. Too many Democrats! Too many rules!

Also he cannot seem to handle California's attempts to solve the environmental problems being caused by the drive for profits and population growth.

It's just too much for his Commie Spyboy Wannabe brain apparently.

This isn't about environmental issues, talk about ignorance. Also California kicks environmental issues to other States, energy, water.

As well as California ignores environmental issues when it doesn't fit the narrative, garbage on the streets, in the river beds, TJ's toxic river.

They claim they are doing this to save people money from the high gas prices, yet they are the ones that forced high gas prices on its populace.

Not my brain, but peoples pocket books. You wonder why Democrats have such a hard time getting the lower, and middle class; donorbot tees up an example perfectly.

"Not my brain, but peoples pocket books."

Blather on with your hateful nonsense commie spyboy.

The mid terms are almost here and accountability is coming.

In the end your desperate lies you constantly spew won't save you.

If the democrats gain power they will have access to the same surveillance and enforcement tools being used against them today.

You really ought to consider that and what the future holds for you as we move forward and things get even tighter as the elections get nearer and you maga maroons get even more desperate.

My suggestion is you keep that Rock you crawled out from under close by as the elections near so you can slither back under there to safety when it's all over for you.

It's the rampant communism.

Don't forget to inflate your tires to the correct pressures and have a good alignment, that's -5% mpg for a lot of people.

It's the rampant communism.

If it was that rampant, Obama would've had us all driving something like a Lada Oka that gets 45 mpg.

Not reminding people who drive trucks or SUVs around the burbs (because freedom!) that routine car maintenance can save money at the pump.

    @#11 ... It's the rampant communism. ...

"Communism" seems to be a word that is especially politically charged of late.

It seems to be used in situtations that have little to do with the actual meaning of the word.

With that in mind, please specify, and be specific, why you said that it's the rampant communism.

    thx.

Would this be easier for you to process if there were html markup tags for sarcasm? My sarcasm gets lost on a lot of people here.

What about those who own off-road SUV's like a Wrangler or Bronco. Those require specific tires for serious off roading. Do those tires fall under this efficiency mandate? What about people who own sports cars? Do Cup 2 tires meet the efficiency standards? What about someone who has a car that badly needs new tires but the owner estimates maybe10-15k miles of life left on their vehicle? Do cheap tires meet the standard when all these owners are concerned about is safety and road-worthiness?
