Deportations have not kept pace with arrests due to legal and logistical barriers. People with criminal convictions accounted for less than a quarter of July arrests. Arrests of people without deportation orders have surged.

... Immigration arrests in the U.S. have soared in recent months, aided by more local law enforcement cooperation with ICE, increased use of technology to track and process people, as well as enhanced data sharing between federal agencies.

But the mass arrest campaign this summer did not lead to a commensurate increase in deportations -- according to preliminary U.S. government data reviewed by Reuters -- a reflection of the legal and logistical limits faced by President Donald Trump as he attempts to hit his mass deportation goals.

Even as arrests jumped to nearly 51,000 in August, setting a record for a third straight month, deportation numbers held mostly steady, averaging around 1,200 per day, the preliminary government data showed.

About the same number of people were deported per day in May, for example, when there were around 19,000 fewer arrests, according to arrests data obtained by the Deportation Data Project through a public records request and analyzed by Reuters.

The disconnect is partly due to who is being targeted, five current and former officials said. The arrests include a growing number of people with no criminal conviction or charge and without deportation orders, according to the Deportation Data Project figures.

Many of those picked up had pending asylum or other legal claims -- meaning they could not be immediately removed from the country unless they agreed to waive their rights and voluntarily depart.

A lack of available flights and limits set by receiving countries have also capped Trump's deportation ambitions, former officials said.

"This is a false narrative," White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis said in response to questions from Reuters. "Thanks to President Trump's strong immigration enforcement policies, three million illegals have left the United States." ...

The city of New York, quite frankly, is quite tolerant of undocumented immigration.... I happen to agree with that. I think New York City should not deal with undocumented immigrants in a harsh way. I think they make a big contribution to the life of the city, and we're much better off being sensible and practical about it.

Deportation requires two parties to agree, the US and the country where the person is to be returned to.

Many countries drag their feet, or just ignore US requests.

Who wants criminals to comeback? not them
who wants criminals to stay in US? Lumpers

Part of the negotiation is to limit that country's number of legal entries.

All this takes time.

So, as usual, Pres Trump has been acting (arrests) before he had a plan in place to handle the results of those actions (deportations).

Thanks for confirming that.

I would be fine with all convicted criminals being deported. I just have a problem targeting only immigrants. Especially since immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate than US citizens.

It is very clear that you have no problem with criminals in this country. In fact, you support and defend criminals. You just have a problem with immigrants. Bringing "criminals" into it is just a strawman for you.

Someone who is dishonest in every facet, from the supposed person behind the account to the content of the stuff they post; all disingenuous, dishonest and fake.

So my view is f*&^ them, especially given the consequences of allowing that trash to continue to exert an insidious influence on the US.

And no, I don't think onelumpofs*&^ has that much power individually, but it's the collective of his type of piece of s*&^ and the large effect they are having.

I'm sorry you two pu&&ies are so content watching your country slip in to failed state status. It's going to be hilarious watching your responses when you finally get it and it clicks in your tiny little brains.

Throwing spit wads and calling people names is fun, I guess.

Presumably nothing.

But I'm not the one who constantly starts pedantic arguments to sound balanced (you) or flat out excuses, deflects or whatabouts for (pedoringer).

Anything short of complete opposition at this point is unacceptable IMO.

We've seen enough to know it's not going to change nor is it going to improve. It's only the same or worse from here on out and given Trump's nature, you're a fool if you think it's going to stay at a constant level of s*&^tyness.

then why the "finally get it and clicks in your tiny brains" ----?

And I'm not talking about how you don't understand Trump or that you are judging him too harshly. That may or may not be true but that's NEVER what I challenge.

I challenge your anger towards others here....wishing they would get hit by a bus or die in some other violent manner.

You are a ball of rage. You can attempt to justify it any way you want but 100% of the cause of it is staring back at you in the mirror.

Is any of this fun for you?

I love this place. I love the people.....including the people I challenge and argue with......and that includes you.

Why so angry? Nobody here has the power to change your life. Nobody here did anything to you. Why do you attack others here for doing something to do they clearly didn't?

There's two kinds of people - those who see the car coming and recognize it will hit them and act accordingly and those who see it, assume they'll stop because that's what always happens and don't act until they get hit.

You seem to need to be hit before getting it because you can't shake your thinking to break out of the normal boxes it comfortably lived in your entire life.

You are a ball of rage.

LOL no. I just recognize that there's no reason to accept influences in this world that are overwhelmingly, intentionally and proudly negative.

According to JPW, everything.

LOL that you're knowledge is super basic and easily pointed out as such doesn't make one a know it all.

It feels that way to you because you're always looking up and your psyche can't handle that.

And I'm not talking about your local holy roller who makes a point of talking about how much they go to church then act like a complete scumbag the rest of the time.

I'm talking about people intentionally making global division a thing and those using it to rob, cheat, swindle, control and, in many cases, kill.

With the kind of attitude you've displayed lately I'd probably just step back and let that "car" hit you.

If I warned you over and over not to step in front of the train (or in this case a "car") that's coming and you rant and and insult everyone around you and say "what train?" I'd just step back and lite up a Doobee and watch Karma take over and maybe take pictures to post in social media. Just think. I'd get so many clicks!

JPW, if I can't see a car coming at me then I'm engaging in very dangerous behavior.

So bring this home for me. Save me from myself.

Especially since immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate than US citizens.

Every illegal immigrant has committed a crime. They should all be deported.

Immigrants that entered the US legally and have committed no crimes since should not be deported.

There you go proving my point for me. When it comes to infectious disease you are certainly knowledgeable. The problem is you think that knowledge translates to knowledge to other topics when it doesn't. For example, you have a stunted understanding of economics but weigh in like you think you are an expert.
