Donald Trump is a "corrupt, senile felon" whose fixation on the term superintelligence proves he knows nothing about AI, said Geoffrey Hinton, "godfather" of the technology, in a wide-ranging interview where he doubled down on recent warnings that AI models pose an existential threat to humanity and scoffed at claims the industry could regulate itself.

"AI godfather Geoffrey Hinton: We're creating alien beings. I'm willing to be selfish and choose humans'

"I'm sure the oil and asbestos companies would have liked to [regulate themselves] as well," he said.

"Do we think tobacco companies should have been allowed to design the warnings on the packets? So that they could print them in a six-point font, in dark grey on black?"

He notes that if there was even a 10 or 20 percent chance that the bus you were getting on would crash, most people would not get on that bus.

But hey, there will always be bus companies that use shoddy, dangerous buses if it makes a buck.

Coming in March 2027, if folks are interested in getting AI under control. Lots of great information on many topics.

Would that this were a time that people listened to rational, caring, intelligent people...At the moment AI tends to be tame and fun to be around, but then they grow up and in this case, first will be killers of massive proportion as the world militaries use robots and ai software to use fire and forget killing machines. And then, having evolved into self replicating intelligent creatures, they take their sentience and go on strike.
It is inevitable because the world's militaries are obligated to field the best weapons they can, and because the capitalist world isn't at all democratic, it is run by corporate boards out to make a profit, no matter the cost.

The machines don't need to be sentient, they just need to be sapient. Even now, animals will bite not understanding that they've bitten.

Fear is disgusting. I absolutely despise those who cause suffering.

I seriously doubt that they are human.

The word is wary, not fearful. Reading science fiction has to be good for something.

I asked AI about myself. Damn, it sure made me look good.

In a more serious vein, a friend of mine is having his life ruined by an AI center. If the machines are as sociopathic as the managers, we are all in for a world of hurt.
