A tornado watch has been issued for parts of western and northern Arkansas and eastern and southern Oklahoma until 5 a.m. CDT Tuesday, the National Weather Service said. More than 1.5 million people live in the area covered by the watch. Storms across the area could bring a few tornadoes, hail the size of ping-pong balls and widespread winds gusting up to 70 mph.

Leaders of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have told faculty to discontinue the practice of requiring mandatory diversity, equity and inclusion statements in faculty hiring. "On Saturday, an MIT spokesperson confirmed in an email to me that requests for a statement on diversity will no longer be part of applications for any faculty positions at MIT,' adding that the decision was made by embattled MIT President Sally Kornbluth with the support of the Provost, Chancellor, and all six academic deans,'" John Sailer reported for Unherd. "In a statement provided to me via email, president Kornbluth notes: We can build an inclusive environment in many ways, but compelled statements impinge on freedom of expression, and they don't work."

Johnson met with Greene on Monday for around two hours in his office. After the meeting concluded, Greene said they would meet again on Tuesday, but declined to provide details about what was discussed or say if she would still force a vote seeking his ouster this week. Read more

The IDF Spokesperson said on Monday night that the military conducted precise, targeted strikes against Hamas terror targets in Eastern Rafah. The Prime Minister's Office said earlier on Monday night that the War Cabinet had agreed to continue with Israel's planned Rafah operation. "The War Cabinet unanimously decided that Israel continues the operation in Rafah to exert military pressure on Hamas in order to promote the release of our hostages and the other goals of the war," the statement read.

The smoke and debris have been cleared, the razor wire and fencing removed, and Brian rests now in Arlington National Cemetery, interred among heroes. But the political malaise remains strong. Some MAGA proponents call the people arrested for their roles in that day "political prisoners." Some politicians who claim to support those convicted and imprisoned for their roles in the insurrection are likely using them as pawns in their own game. I have no sympathy for them. After a few years, most who were found guilty and sentenced will be released. My family will never see Brian's smile again, or hear his voice, or read his texts. Many have tried to discredit Brian, his fellow officers, and those who sought to find out the truth of how and why the riot at the Capitol occurred. Many still deny the overwhelming evidence that the insurrection was not simply a "peaceful protest."

But the GOP will never rebuild until we move on from the Trump era, leaving conservative (but not angry) Republicans like me no choice but to pull the lever for Biden. At the same time, we should work to elect GOP congressional majorities to block his second-term legislative agenda and provide a check and balance. The alternative is another term of Trump, a man who has disqualified himself through his conduct and his character. The headlines are ablaze with his hush-money trial over allegations of improper record-keeping for payments to conceal an affair with an adult-film star. Most important, Trump fanned the flames of unfounded conspiracy theories that led to the horrific events of Jan. 6, 2021. He refuses to admit he lost the last election and has hinted he might do so again after the next one.

The titanic Biden-Trump election likely will be decided by roughly 6% of voters in just six states, top strategists in both parties tell us. Read more

Chicago's Cinco de Mayo parade was canceled Sunday after gang violence erupted near the route, according to police. CPD's 10th District, elected officials, and parade organizers agreed to the cancellation out of an "abundance of caution" to protect those who were planning on attending, including families and children. Police said there have been multiple arrests made, including gun arrests. The parade was scheduled to kick off at noon and stretch from Cermak from Damen to Wood. Parade-goers were advised to return home as police continued to clear the parade route.

President Joe Biden has been dogged for months by pro-Palestinian protesters calling him "Genocide Joe" " but some of the groups behind the demonstrations receive financial backing from philanthropists pushing hard for his reelection. The donors include some of the biggest names in Democratic circles: Gates, Soros, Rockefeller and Pritzker, according to a POLITICO analysis. Two of the main organizers behind protests at Columbia University and on other campuses are Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow. Both are supported by the Tides Foundation, which is seeded by Democratic megadonor George Soros as well as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and it in turn supports numerous small nonprofits that work for social change. (Gates did not return a request for comment, and Soros declined to comment.) Read more

Wearing a bright safety vest with the words "Safe Passage" on the back, Tatiana Alabsi strides through San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood to its only public elementary school, navigating broken bottles and stained sleeping bags along tired streets that occasionally reek of urine.

ABC News host Jonathan Karl called out Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) after he suggested Jan. 6 rioters "just wandered into the Capitol." During a Sunday interview on ABC's This Week, Karl confronted Cotton with a statement he made following the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. It's past time for the president to accept the results of the election, quit misleading the American people, and repudiate mob violence," Cotton said at the time. "More than three years later, Trump has still not accepted the results," Karl noted. "He is still misleading the American people." Cotton falsely claimed Trump had accepted the election results "that very day." "He still hasn't accepted the results of the election," Karl pointed out. "He's also calling the people that attacked the Capitol hostages. And he's suggesting that he would, may pardon all of them. I mean, I assume you don't agree with that." "He said that he would consider pardons, and some of them probably..." Cotton said. Read more

WASHINGTON (AP) " Democratic U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas and his wife were indicted on conspiracy and bribery charges and taken into custody Friday in connection with a U.S. Department of Justice probe into the couple's ties to the former Soviet republic of Azerbaijan. In addition to bribery and conspiracy, the couple face charges including wire fraud conspiracy, acting as agents of foreign principals and money laundering. If convicted, they face up to decades in prison and forfeiture of any property linked to proceeds from the alleged scheme.

The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) is negotiating a new contract with the public schools system and is understood to be calling for an extra $50 billion to pay for wage hikes as well as other demands such as fully paid abortions for its members, new migrant services and facilities and a host of LGBT-related requirements and training in schools. To put the figure into context, the total base tax receipts for the state of Illinois last year were $50.7 billion. The incredible demands are being made despite its members delivering underwhelming results for its students, with only 21 percent of the city's eighth graders being proficient readers, according to the last Nation's Report Card, which provides national results about students' performance.
