Unexpected Support for Harris in the Villages, Florida?

CJ Stallworth: After driving through The Villages a few years ago and seeing the streets lined with Klan advertising, I never imagined I'd be writing about Kamala Harris garnering support in this traditionally conservative community.

No "white power" shouts from Harris supporters. How about that?

They know what side their bread is buttered. They know full well if they vote Trump their Social Security checks and Medicare benefits will dissapear. It's a matter of financial life or death to many retirees.

They say it with their golf carts.

Golfing is the epitome of White power.

But glad Harris is gathering support from the geriatric crowd in Florida.

Isn't the villages home to 10,000 so 100 us pretty good.

More from the cited article...

... One reason for this unexpected support is the demographic shift within The Villages. Over the past few years, a younger and more diverse population has started to call this place home. These new residents bring different perspectives and are less tied to the traditionally conservative values of the area. This influx of new blood is gradually reshaping the political landscape, making it more receptive to Democratic candidates like Harris. ...

I have often noted that those boasting about the population influx, the Southern states have been seeing, may be overlooking the shifting demographics (political and otherwise) that such an influx brings along with it.

I doubt it's widespread. A lot of the influx here has been RWNJs leaving blue states. Maybe Florida is different, but given that the governor is a full-on fascist, I kind of doubt it.

It is happening but since they are all coming to a few spots in heavily districted republican states it will really only amount to 1 or 2 extra seats, most likely not causing a core shift in the overall demographics of government.

@#7 ... most likely not causing a core shift in the overall demographics of government. ...

I agree.

There will be a shift, albeit a small one at the start.

Whether or not the shift lasts, and how large it becomes, will depend upon many factors.

Ah, the Villages... where a Race Riot is when mostly Red and some Blue Golf Carts collide!

I live 20 mins north of there in Horse Country, and avoid it like the Plague it is.

Since Bush, Nashville has been a Democrat progressive oasis.

Republicans gerrymandered it into 6 pie slices and added "conservative areas outward in every direction.

The campaign intends to rally its new (thousands of FL) volunteers in preparation for the fall campaign with a roundtable discussion in Temple Terrace, a voter recruitment training session for senior citizens in Wilton Manors, Coral Springs neighborhood canvassing, and 100 golf cart owners in a caravan parading through The Villages.

500 golf carts supported Harris in The Villages:

My mind is still blown from today. For reference, this isn't even HALF of the total golf carts that participated. Believe me, this is a BFD! @KamalaforFL @KamalaHQ @KamalaHarris pic.twitter.com/SXYPGll8QM
