U.S. Infant Deaths Rose After Fall of Roe v. Wade

In the year and a half following the Supreme Court Dobbs decision that revoked the federal right to an abortion, hundreds more infants died than expected in the United States, new research shows. The vast majority of those infants had congenital anomalies, or birth defects.

To once again reiterate what has happened since Dobbs:

1. the rate of abortions has increased
2. the effort and cost to obtain an abortion has increased
3. the danger to women from pregnancy has increased
4. the rate of born children has decreased
5. the number of women choosing permanent contraception (i.e. tubal ligation) has increased
6. the number of newborns dying has increased.

I am not sure how the increase in infant deaths could be considered unexpected though.

Once again we see how right wingers care more about the abstract unborn than they do about the people who are actually among us.

The God they believe in is an abstraction. Other humans who they do not know are just an abstraction. Unfortunately for all of us, the idea of unborn babies is a more poignant abstraction in their minds.

baby killers calling other's "murderers"

#8 | POSTED BY SHRIMPTACODAN

MAGA is murdering or abetting the murder of women as we speak.

MAGA has this fetish for seeing themselves as being heroes, no matter what you do.

I haven't seen any bad thing you people haven't justified once it gave you an advantage to justify it.

#8 | POSTED BY SHRIMPTACODAN

"Babies" the way you people wield the term---like a bludgeon or a hatchet---is a political abstraction you use to seize power from your neighbors. Just and exactly as you use "race".

#8 | POSTED BY SHRIMPTACODAN

If I read you correctly, and you know I do, then you are using "babies" as a weapon to remove women from the vote.

Like I said, if you see an advantage in something then you in MAGA will do it. In other words, you are the criminals you think are sneaking up on you from south of the border, or Haiti.

Eat some dogs. We know that you do.

What kind of **cked-up world does visitor_ live in?

He actually believes that a woman would carry a wanted child for 6, 7, 8, even 9 months, and then callously she decides to abort said wanted child, because just exactly why?

The reason why is that visitor_ and his ilk believe that women are just too stupid to leave their health care in the hands of the people who actually know what's going on: the woman and her health care provider This includes the decision to abort a child.

So, since visitor_ and his ilk believe that they know what's best for women - women they will never meet and never know - they want the government in the same room as the woman and her health care provider. And why is that? It is because they can't be there themselves.

That's the kind of **cked-up world visitor_ and his ilk long to live in.

Trump Suggests Abraham Lincoln Should've Let the South Keep a Little Slavery (october 18, 2024)
www.vanityfair.com

... Donald Trump appeared on Fox News this morning, where, during a characteristically bizarre interview, he suggested Abraham Lincoln could have avoided the Civil War by cutting a deal with the South"which, as a reminder, wanted slavery to remain legal.

Asked by a 10-year-old who his favorite president was when he was "little," Trump began by saying he "liked Ronald Reagan." (Note: Trump was 34 when Reagan first took office, and 42 when he left.) Then he turned to Lincoln, who he believes was a great president"but could've been better if he'd "settled" the Civil War.

"Great presidents?" Trump said. "Lincoln was probably a great president, although I've always said, why wasn't that settled? You know, I'm a guy that -- it doesn't make sense we had a Civil War ... . You'd almost say, like, why wasn't that [settled]? ...

Eb,

If they don't exist for Alex...ok.

If I want to refer to someone as an alpha, to me that person is an alpha.

Alex doesn't get to dictate that distinction.

Here's what I mean.

True story.

Someone I have worked with for many, many years sent me a text recently.

I am retiring and they told me I am a "great man".

It would be sort of wierd to say that to myself.

To that person I am great. Nice compliment. I don't get many.

#43 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2024-10-21 09:45 PM

Eb,

My definition of an alpha might not include crapping on people.

I can think of other labels for that person.

I believe alpha types definately do exist.

They're not always male.

"If I want to refer to someone as an alpha, to me that person is an alpha.
Alex doesn't get to dictate that distinction.
#43 | Posted by BillJohnson"

It is cope and nothing more. It would be akin to saying a 'boss babe' does not exist. It is utter nonsense. Seeing behavior, it is clear who is the alpha. In in the case of AOC, who I despise, it is clear she is a Boss Babe alpha. She literally does not care what people say about her. I would say the same for Biden.

Same as on any sports team - you are telling me that CR9 is not an alpha? Zlatan is not an alpha? Leaders and alphas have people gravitate towards them but because we have not faced truly hard times in the US for a couple of decades, people forget.

#45 | Posted by deadman at 2024-10-21 09:54 PM

The GOP is not "pro-life", they are FORCED BIRTH.

Pro-life would mean maternal health care, maternity and paternity leave, child health care, WIC, food stamps, school lunches and good education systems all of which they routinely vote against.

Their "pro-life" claim is ------- just like everything else that comes out of their mouths.

There is a word that describes animals that cannot control their reproduction choices - livestock.

I recommend you date women who shower after sex instead of leaving sperm all over themselves.

If you look at a woman who's not a virgin and imagine sperm all over her, that's a YOU problem. Maybe you're obsessed with sperm. Maybe you're obsessed with the place sperm comes from.

PS- no one can call themselves an ALPHA while voting for a man with fake hair who wears makeup, high heels, a girdle, and a diaper, who has never done an honest day's work in his life.

#62 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2024-10-22 01:13 PM

I think there is a certain dishonesty when people claim to believe in reproductive rights but only want to extend it to women because she bears the child.

I believe if a man is willing to assume responsibility, there should be father's rights.

He should have legal grounds to force the woman to give birth to his child.

There would be exceptions just like as with abortion. But if a woman has consensual sex permitting a man to be with her, she should have diminished reproduction rights if she ends up pregnant from it.

If we're talking about people having productive rights, it's hypocritical to exclude men.

Seems to me women aren't that concerned with reproductive rights but instead just the right to kill the baby.

So, since BILLJOHNSON and his ilk believe that they know what's best for women - women they will never meet and never know - they want the government in the same room as the woman and her health care provider. And why is that? It is because they can't be there themselves.

That's the kind of **cked-up world BILLJOHNSON and his ilk long to live in.

With artificial wombs, there will be no need for either parent to carry it while it's gestation. The technology isn't quite there yet, but it's actually not that far in the future. This would have been a better example to use than Bill's crude argumentum ad absurdum.

Church: It's lent so no meat on Friday.

Me: So no eggs.

Church: No eggs are fine.

Me: So the thing isn't a thing until it is born.

Church: Yes, no wait...

He should have legal grounds to force the woman

So slavery or Texas, both are the same.

It does seem that this Supreme Court has more blood on its hands than any previous court! I do hope it doesn't spoil Clarence and Ginni'snext vacation on the mrga-yacht owned by the billionaire with cases to be heard by that same court! So are we wrong to suspect corroption? I do remember a time when such a conflict just would not happen but with Clarence Thomas nothing is impossible!

#83 | Posted by danni at 2024-10-23 09:50 AM

Danni,

"It does seem that this Supreme Court has more blood on its hands than any previous court!"

You can't see it but there is even more blood on the hands of the women who are killing their children.

They are ultimately to blame.

Liar.

That is against the law in every state.

People who spread these lies are the real criminals.

Corky,

Abortion is more than a legal issue.

It's a moral failing of humanity.

And I suspect we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

In years to come the lack of sancity of human life will lead to designer babies and aborted fetuses for desired traits.

I mean...why not?

#88 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2024-10-23 11:24 AM

Lying about abortion is the moral failing under current discussion here, Bill.

#89 | Posted by Corky at 2024-10-23 11:29 AM

The moral failing is forcing women to carry an unwanted fetus to term.

No matter how much you wish it.

No matter how many times you lie about it.

No matter how convoluted your arguments are.

A fetus is not a baby. It is a potential human being, nothing more nothing less.

And it truly is none of your business.

#90 | Posted by truthhurts at 2024-10-23 11:29 AM

"...lack of sancity {sic} of human life..."

Coming from a religious person, LMFAO!

#91 | Posted by truthhurts at 2024-10-23 11:30 AM

-In years to come the lack of sancity of human life will lead to designer babies and aborted fetuses for desired traits.

And you think an abortion ban combats that challenge?

I don't disagree that technology and innovation is going to continue to generate some ethical and moral issues with regard to human life. Beginning to end of life.

But this political issue is only preventing those discussions.....

Exactly.

Smart men don't tell you they're smart.

Health men don't tell you they're healthy.

Brave men don't tell you they're brave.

Successful men don't run around bragging about how successful they are.

A lion doesn't have to say it's a lion.

But yet we have 25% of America that falls for the baloney of a con man who tells them he's brilliant, healthy, successful and brave yet providing no evidence of being any of the above.

Because we are not China.

Get a grip Mr "pro-life".

Your sperm is as much potentially a human as a women's egg.

You have probably murdered millions of potential humans.

You can't be pro life and support the death penalty either.

Or shooting dogs in the gravel pit.

What kind of **cked-up world does BILLJOHNSON live in?

He actually believes that a woman would carry a wanted child for 6, 7, 8, even 9 months, and then callously decides to abort said wanted child, because just exactly why?

The reason why is that BILLJOHNSON and his ilk believe that women are just too stupid to leave their health care in the hands of the people who actually know what's going on: the woman and her health care provider This includes the decision to abort a child.

So, since BILLJOHNSON and his ilk believe that they know what's best for women - women they will never meet and never know - they want the government in the same room as the woman and her health care provider. And why is that? It is because they can't be there themselves.

Eb,

"technology and innovation is going to continue to generate some ethical and moral issues with regard to human life. Beginning to end of life."

You are right.

How about keeping bodies alive for extended periods of time using machines when the lights are on but no ones home?

Should the body be kept alive or let it die?

Or frozen embryos...and more.

Birth control methods that stop life instead of prevent it.

This isn't cut and dry.

The reason I mention this was that Danni decided to turn the topic into a moral issue with her "blood on hands" comment.

If life is just meaningless, what does my or her opinions even matter?

#96 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2024-10-23 12:12 PM

Hans,

I tried a couple of your links.

They are pointless so letting you know you're do all this work just for yourself or whoever has the time to waste clicking them.

I won't be bothered.

BILLJOHNSON thinks women are stupid.

BILLJOHNSON thinks that he knows better than any woman.

BILLJOHNSON is too much of a coward to do anything about it, so he wants the government to force women to carry a child.

Yep, BILLJOHNSON hates women - women he will never meet, and women he will never know.

#98 | Posted by Hans at 2024-10-23 12:17 PM

BJ also lies about women murdering children... and then ignores being called on the lie.

#99 | Posted by Corky at 2024-10-23 12:25 PM

BILLJOHNSON wants desperate women to have their bodies butchered in a back alley (this is his idea of the "sanctity of life")

BILLJOHNSON wants women to bleed to death in hospital parking lots because his "life of the mother" BS makes licensed physicians afraid of losing their license (or go to prison) rather than administer life saving care.

BILLJOHNSON is too much of a coward to do anything about it, so he wants the government to force women to be butchered and die.

Yep, BILLJOHNSON hates women - women he will never meet, and women he will never know

You spent your life lying to yourself and your wife, depriving her of a fundamental part of the human experience, all because you're a victim of christofascist propaganda.

I am however impressed that you admit it. A huge percentage of christians and trump supporters are closet cases like yourself, who want the government or church to keep them from from being their true selves. The amount of damage caused by republicans fighting human nature is vast.

#105 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2024-10-23 02:20 PM

Hey bill

What do all of those ethical questions have in common?

They're all none of your ------- business

#106 | Posted by truthhurts at 2024-10-23 02:23 PM

BillJohnson is a gay man, who prayed the gay away and forced a woman to marry him.

I'm sure he has love for her. Like you would for a long time friend.

But he doesn't know what love is. He's denied himself and his wife that feeling. They're whole lives together.

#107 | Posted by ClownShack at 2024-10-23 02:59 PM

Clown,

'who prayed the gay away"

I don't believe that can happen.

It didn't with me.

People misunderstand bisexuality. Orientation isn't a dial you dial left for gay and right for straight.

Orientation is separate lines along a continuum for emotional, mental and physical attraction for male or female.

Sexual desire is complex.

She is my only female experience. Men were numerous before making the decision to restrain and refrain from being with men after living out several years.

She knew exactly who she was marrying. We lived together and were sexually active before getting married.

Perhaps like a person can be conditioned to repeat a certain behavior, I developed a definite desire for her but not women in general.

I still prefer the beauty of a sexy handsome man for shear visual enjoyment.

All I'll say on this topic.

If you go to prison, BJ, there's a Trump era Transgender Program that might help.

Just sayin'.

And if you need a way to get into prison, try being at the Capitol next Jan 6.

#110 | Posted by Corky at 2024-10-23 04:10 PM

People misunderstand bisexuality.

Bisexuals tend to enjoy having sexual relations with both men and woman's don't hate the fact that they enjoy being with people of the same gender.

They also don't tell stories about their homosexual youth which scarred them.

Face it, your "bisexual" identity is one you've recently adopted in order to help you make sense of your life.
