The Broken People Who Want to Break America

Rebecca Solnit: They appear to be deeply damaged people and they have come to damage everything else, including the climate; human rights, especially women's rights, trans rights and immigrants' rights; and the US economy. The rest of us and the rest of the world will be the cleanup crew because men like this never clean up after themselves.

Comments

Democrats have spent years now investing far too much energy into making the majority feel guilty and responsible for everything wrong in the world. Trump offers a guilt-free lie the majority can live in.

It's a world where everybody who's in prison deserves to be there illegal immigrants no matter the reason for coming deserve to be sent back where cops never shoot anybody without justification where humans can't possibly cause negative climate change and where every day is a new day and the past doesn't even exist.

Psst, listen for a little wisdom

Americans are stupid.

------- WILL do outrageous and unpopular things, he will tank the economy.

Americans will move left as a result.

If we still have elections.

Oh yeah hating on America that's a sure-fire way to get people to support your cause whatever it may be.

Republicans on the other hand have created a world free of guilt. It's built on lies but while you're trying to force feed people health food he's offering them candy.

Am I the only one who now finds himself avoiding either reading or watching the news about what is happening around us? All too sickening. I can't foresee anything but injustice for quite some time to come.

Pure horse manure.

It is, but Americans just asked for a truckload of it to be shoveled into their homes.

"When people are more concerned that a trans girl might play on a softball team than that the climate crisis might profoundly devastate the biosphere and much of life on it, human and otherwise, for the next 10,000 years, the media has failed. When people worry about crihm now when it is low, an economy when it is thriving and immigrants when they do much of the hard work that sustains that economy and commit fewer crimes than the native-born, the media has failed."

Had so many conversations and arguments with Trump supporters; I finally realized that if Fox News disagrees that is the end of the discussion. if I had to actually say who won this election it isn't Donald Trump, it isn't Elon Musk; No, it's Rupert Murdoch, Fox News won and America lost. Fox has been a danger to democracy since Bush v Gore in 2000. When election the the Supreme Court decided that election results can be reversed by a bribed, unethical, corrupt Supreme Court. America is lost. The Supreme Court was the only part of our government that made sure that our nation remained true to the Constitution but the Roberts Court has destroyed the people's belief in the Supreme Court and I doubt it will rver be restored. about Trump didn't destroy our democracy the Supreme Court did with the Citizens United decision ending democracy that couldn't be bought and turned it into an auction with control going to the highest bidder. The Justices of the Supreme Court has sold out to billionaires with mega-yachts and private jets. We have watched as they have rubber stamped the Republican agenda for about 20 years or so and so now we have a convicted felon, coup leader as our President who will again lie on inauguration day and take an oath to respect and defend our Constitution which he has publicly said he hates. On that Inauguration Day I know I won't be watching, the talk about Trump destroying democracy will slowly seep into the brains of his stupid supporters. They are very slow to understand because most of them only get information from Fox News which carefully slants everything to help Republicans. I just whnt to remind prople about Fox News' support for George W. Bush and the Iraq invasion and ask them; How did that work out? Remember the crash of 2007-08? Remember the bumbling fools trying to get their greedy hands on the Iraq oil fields and who then failed because Iraq wouldn't privatize those oil fields. So after spending hundreds of billions of dollars and losing thousands of our soldiers what did America gain? And why do so many Americans not realize Fox News sold that war to America but no one today holds them accountable for that and no one is going to hold them accountable for the election we just had either.

#15 | Posted by truthhurts at 2024-11-08 11:57 AM

The second Trump won his supporters were crowing about how great it is we finally have a strong stock market again.

The fact it has been strong under Biden never broke through their bubble. Or like Trump they don't care what is true as long as the lie is popular.

RCADE, This video is from 8 years ago. It's Thomas Frank. He's an author and a Democrat. It's about the 2016 election.

What's your opinion on what he's saying/criticizing of the Democrats?

The Democrats could come up with the best messaging for working people ever and would still get portrayed as snooty college-educated elites on Fox News, Sinclair TV stations, manosphere podcasts and the rest of the right-wing media bubble that most Americans live in.

Trust

It's about Trust

People are giving their trust to Trump (and other republicans considering the GOP picked up seats everywhere)

Trust can be earned but that's not what's so significant about Trust.

What's most significant is that Trust is given

#20 | Posted by eberly at 2024-11-08 01:47 PM

@#18

Well, Don't let right wing media do it! We need to fight, throw their lies back at them. Expose them!

I think the Democrats need to be more like Bernie Sanders, but tougher, He's talking more meat and potato issues.

If the Democratic Party could push for Universal Healthcare and get the exorbitant cost of college educations under control(and you know the Republicans won't do that) And then sell that message aggressively and intelligently they could have a very good chance of winning back the working middle-class.

Anyway, that's my opinion.

#22 | Posted by ClownShack at 2024-11-08 02:20 PM

Democrats are extremely lousy about messaging.

Time and again, Republicans control the narrative.

Quite literally in the case of Rupert Murdoch and Elon Musk.

I'm not too sure why anyone was happy when Musk bought twitter.

We're witnessing the results.

The return on his investment.

#23 | Posted by ClownShack at 2024-11-08 02:24 PM

People are giving their trust to Trump ...

Honest question: What do you expect Democrats or anyone else to do in response to the fact that trust is being given by millions of Americans to a fundamentally dishonest leader who lies all day long and deep into the night?

You can't prove yourselves worthy of trust to a movement so irrational that it trusts Trump.

There's a GOP pundit on NBC News saying that unlike Harris, Trump proved himself to be authentic. Their proof of his authenticity? He never stopped lying throughout the campaign.

This is what we're up against.

#24 | Posted by rcade at 2024-11-08 02:37 PM

You gloat at your own peril, Maga mouth breathers. I admit it will be quite satisfying to watch your transitory smugness incrementally become the visual essence of true revelation as Trump and his Brownshirt 2025 crew attempt to tear this country apart over the next four years, brick by ethical/moral brick. Anyone who voted for that %#!? criminal can go perform a impossible sex act on themselves.

#25 | Posted by dutch46 at 2024-11-08 02:40 PM

Trump told them what they wanted to hear and they lined up and ate from his hand like loyal sycophants. He also tapped into their racist misogynistic homophobic and transphobic beliefs and validated them.

Very fair question.

My honest answer is this......I have no idea. It baffles me just as much as it baffles you how Trump could get this much trust.

-There's a GOP pundit on NBC News saying that unlike Harris, Trump proved himself to be authentic.

That pundit doesn't have the answer either. Just making ---- up.....

Years from now we'll still be discussing how it was possible for someone who clearly didn't do anything to earn anybody's trust...still received that much trust.

#27 | Posted by eberly at 2024-11-08 02:55 PM

When we have that discussion it will probably be around a canpfire amid the rubble of a major American city as we keep alert for an attack by mutated MAGA zombies who roam the night craving human flesh.

Speaking of Garbage ...

Garbage - Queer (1996)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt ...
genius.com

...
Hey boy, take a look at me
Let me dirty up your mind
I'll strip away your hard veneer
And see what I can find

[Chorus]
The queerest of the queer
The strangest of the strange
The coldest of the cool
The lamest of the lame
The numbest of the dumb
I hate to see you here
You choke behind a smile
A fake behind the fear
The queerest of the queer

[Verse 2]
This is what he pays me for
I'll show you how it's done
You'll learn to love the pain you feel
Like father, like son

[Chorus]
The queerest of the queer
Hide inside your head
The blindest of the blind
The deadest of the dead
You're hungry 'cause you starve
While holding back the tears
Choking on your smile
A fake behind the fear
The queerest of the queer
...

Though I first heard it on the area college station (wxci.org) I've actually heard that tune on a commercial radio station recently.

"Bush v Gore in 2000. When election the the Supreme Court decided that election results can be reversed"

Have you considered working for RT? They love that sort of historical revisionism. No election results were reversed in 2000. Gore was the one attempting to reverse the election results, even though he was never ahead in any of the counts or recounts in Florida.
