Trump, Re CEOs: 'Everybody Wants to Be My Friend'

Donald Trump said he's being embraced by business executives -- in a stark reversal from when he first won the White House eight years ago -- as tech executives and founders flock to Florida to meet with the president-elect.

"Since Trump won re-election -- this time with the popular vote -- many of the most influential people in America seem to have lost any will to stand up to him as he goes about transforming America into the sort of authoritarian oligarchy he admires," writes @michellegoldberg.bsky.social.

More from the article...

... "We have a lot of great executives coming in, the top executives, the top bankers, they're all calling," Trump said at a press conference Monday in Florida, adding that he recently met with billionaire Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Alphabet Inc.'s Google.

The president-elect was speaking to reporters after announcing that SoftBank Group Corp. planned to invest $100 billion in the US following his meeting with Chief Executive Officer Masayoshi Son.

Trump has held a series of conversations with tech leaders at his Florida club Mar-a-Lago in recent weeks: a November dinner with Meta Platforms Inc.'s Mark Zuckerberg and meetings with Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai and Apple Inc.'s Tim Cook last week. Trump also said he plans to meet with the billionaire founder of Amazon.com Inc. Jeff Bezos this week.

"I had dinner with, sort of, almost all of them, and the rest are coming," Trump said, describing the outreach from the business community as "one of the big differences between the first term."

"In the first term everybody was fighting. In this term, everybody wants to be my friend," he said.

The president-elect had a mixed record with top business leaders during his first White House term. Trump dissolved two economic advisory councils only months after forming them as business leaders quit en masse following his response to a White nationalist attack in Charlottesville, Virginia. Other executives kept Trump at arm's length, fearing backlash from employees or customers. ...

@#2 ... Big Sales are always popular, and DJT and America are For Sale to the highest bidders. ...

That's the way it is looking.

The way to getting what you want from the Trump-elect administration looks to be through his ego and wallet.

Also, along those lines...

Trump says he'd "look at" a pardon for NYC Mayor Eric Adams
www.cbsnews.com

... President-elect Donald Trump said Monday he would "look at" a pardon for embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who has been indicted on federal corruption charges. ...

So, that's the quid pro quo for Mayor Adams kissing up to Pres-elect regarding immigrants.

Yeah, the WH is For Sale again.

At least the Dems who are for sale don't advertise it; the Trumpers all think they should be billionaires, too, and that if they fall in with the Mobster system of bribes and payoffs, they will be!

For a while. These things have a way of evening out.

Trump, re CEOs: 'Everybody Wants To Be My Friend'

Why shouldn't they?

If American voters don't care enough about our nation to keep this miscreant out of office, why should CEOs shoot themselves, and the corporations they run, in the foot by insulting Hair Furor?

They aren't friends, they are Scared of Trump.

They don't want the US government to be used against them.

#11 | POSTED BY ROBSON

I am grateful to be alive no matter who is President.

And I have learned to survive them all.

But some make it easier than others to stay alive.

Some even make it easier to prosper and thrive.

I have yet to see Trumpy offer anything that will actually help me stay alive much less prosper and thrive.

#16 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-12-17 03:02 PM

"But some make it easier than others to stay alive.

Some even make it easier to prosper and thrive."

so some have helped you and some have hurt you?

tell us more....can you expand on that?

so some have helped you and some have hurt you?

#17 | POSTED BY EBERLY

If you don't know how a president can help or hurt you I am not gonna explain it to you like are you a child. Are you a child?

And anyway why should I?

You will find out soon enough regardless what I say.

#18 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-12-17 03:16 PM

18

that's just admitting you don't actually know how a president has helped you or hurt you so you're deflecting.

I just gave you a perfect opportunity to display how that can happen and educate a moron like me.

and you're punting.

and the reason is obvious.

#19 | Posted by eberly at 2024-12-17 03:19 PM

You will find out soon enough regardless what I say.

I think you might be right which is why I didn't vote for Trump.

And I'm gearing up for a rough few years ahead.......but you can still try to answer my question.

But........if you can't....that's okay.

#20 | Posted by eberly at 2024-12-17 03:22 PM

but you can still try to answer my question.

POSTED BY EBERLY

Good. Because if you aren't an idiot (and I don't think you are) you already know exactly how a President can help or hurt your efforts to get ahead in life

Trumpy believes that half of America is his enemy. That's not a good sign. Or a good start.

But ask yourself this and you will know the answer (that you already know) to your question:

Did President Trump help or hurt most Americans with his response to a global pandemic?

Did Trumpy help or hurt most Americans by letting the wealthy pay less in taxes?

Did Trumpy help or hurt Americans by trying to undermine Americans access to affordable healthcare in America?

Dis Trumpy help or hurt Americans with his choices for the Supreme Court?

#21 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-12-17 03:34 PM

-Did President Trump help or hurt most Americans with his response to a global pandemic?

I think the behavior on the part of irresponsible Americans, including governors, Mayors, police chiefs, etc.....during the pandemic was going to happen regardless.

Nobody can prove otherwise and I can't prove I'm right.

-Did Trumpy help or hurt most Americans by letting the wealthy pay less in taxes?

nobody can ever demonstrate how that hurts themselves. they pretend they carry the debt but they don't.

Did your income go down? Taxes go up? How were you hurt?

-Did Trumpy help or hurt Americans by trying to undermine Americans access to affordable healthcare in America?

Trying to undermine or actually undermining? Again, how did that hurt YOU?

-Dis Trumpy help or hurt Americans with his choices for the Supreme Court?

That's probably the closest he comes to hurting me or you on that list you provided.

#22 | Posted by eberly at 2024-12-17 04:11 PM

My larger point is that people allow themselves to be caught in the weeds of political bickering and convince themselves they are such victims of who lives at 1600 Penn.

Yes, there is an impact but for the purpose of being high minded or partisan that impact is embellished to an insane level.

And since I complain about democrats occupying the White House about the same as I complain about a republican occupying it......which is NOT AT ALL....you can criticize me all you want.

But I just won't elevate someone to a level I don't think they are on.

#23 | Posted by eberly at 2024-12-17 04:15 PM

That's all Trump is in this for. He's still pissed NBC gave Gwen Stefani more $$$ than him. Fred and Roy Cohn really did a number on that guy.

#24 | Posted by lee_the_agent at 2024-12-17 04:20 PM

Eb, you seem to on the ball to be a troll, so why are you so obtuse?
Are you a child.
The Government helps you by not allowing companies to put sawdust in your food.
They hurt you by allowing factories to dump waste in the rivers.
Was that so hard?

#25 | Posted by TFDNihilist at 2024-12-17 04:31 PM

25

I'm not against government or government regulation.

Why don't you go back to the corner and put your ------ dunce cap back on, boy?

You're a moron.

#26 | Posted by eberly at 2024-12-17 04:32 PM

-They hurt you by allowing factories to dump waste in the rivers.

Nobody has polluted a river in the last 4 years?

Oh my God!!!! I didn't know that.

#27 | Posted by eberly at 2024-12-17 04:40 PM

But I just won't elevate someone to a level I don't think they are on.

#23 | POSTED BY EBERLY

That's nice. Trumpy could care whether you "elevate" someone or not.

He is gonna do what he is gonna do whether you like it or it hurts others or not.

The dude is only president to stay out of jail, avoid further prosecution and to get revenge and retribution on anyone who has dissed him. He does not care how many hurts in his rampage.

If you personally don't get hurt in the process then lucky you. Many Americans will not be so lucky. If you are so inclined you should pray for them.

#28 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-12-17 06:24 PM

Trying to undermine or actually undermining? Again, how did that hurt YOU?
Actually.

It hurt my kids so it hurt me.

Your smug response shows that you do not understand that voting down the ACA was not the only way for Trumpy and maga republicans to try and sabotage the ACA. And don't think he won't do more now that he has another chance ( see item #6).

1. Trump administration sharply reduced support for advertising and exchange navigators while reducing the annual enrollment period to about half the number of days.

2. Cut ACA subsidies to insurance companies offering coverage on the exchanges.

3.Construct and promote off-ramps to cheaper, lower-quality insurance. Trumpy strove to expand access to cheaper coverage that did not meet these quality standards and would siphon off healthier enrollees from the exchanges.

4. Promote waivers that would decrease ACA enrollments and undermine its regulatory structure.

5. Discourage legal "aliens" from enrolling in Medicaid.

6. Trying to persuade the Supreme Court to destroy the ACA.
(To be continued this term)

#29 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-12-17 06:42 PM

Did your income go down? Taxes go up? How were you hurt?

Trump did away with the SALT deduction to purposely harm people in my state. And yes it cost me in my taxes.

#30 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-12-17 06:47 PM

So if thousands of apolitical Americans with common sense were asked are you happier to have open borders with Biden/ Kamala in the White House or Donald Trump?

The answer would assuredly be obvious. Trump is not perfect but he has sense, Biden and Kamala have nothing.

#31 | Posted by Robson at 2024-12-17 06:50 PM

My taxes went up. It was and is significant. It seriously pisses me off to this day. One of the things the Democrats didn't do that further pissed me off was they didn't fix it.

#32 | Posted by YAV at 2024-12-17 06:52 PM

So if thousands of apolitical Americans with common sense (good luck finding them!) were asked whether they preferred a crap sandwich or a big wet turd. Which would they take?

Now we know.

#33 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-12-17 07:05 PM

Trump is not perfect but he has sense...
