Republicans Butt Heads on Daylight Savings Time After Trump Directive

A Republican brouhaha is emerging after President-elect Trump called to eliminate daylight saving time, setting up battle lines between prominent GOP lawmakers in their hopes to lock the clock.

This will never happen, because it would interfere with King Dotard II's gawlf game. With the sun now coming up at 0430 and setting at 1955 each day, our fat criminal insurrectionist and golf cheat will not have time to cheat his way around 18 holes before crashing some poor couple's wedding...

There's only one good solution: DST in the winter, double DST in the summer.

I hate it when it gets light too early in the morning.

But seriously, this year I left the clock on the stove on permanent DST. I have yet to look at that clock and think anything other than "That's a much more sensible time."

Permanent DST absolutely NEEDS to happen.

Oh, and states can already go to permanent awful ("standard") time if they want. ONLY Arizona has done that. NOBODY else wants that nonsense. And my state has already passed permanent DST if the feds will let them.

I don't think children should be goimg to school in the dark. year round DST would cause them to walking, riding their bikes or waiting for the bus in the dark.

Do you live in North Korea, where there are no lights?

It seems like this emotional argument about children being in the dark before school gets repeated mindlessly like any other "think of the children!" admonishment without any critical thought.

Without DST, it can get dark as early 3:30pm in some places when it's cloudy. Why isn't there just much concern about children coming home from school in the dark?

If there really are any legitimate concerns about children going to school in the dark, a more sensible solution would be to have the schools start an hour later during those times, rather than making everyone lose an hour of daylight in the evening when most people have their "free" time.

I would vote yes for making DST permanent.

Each has advantages, just pick one time and stick with it. Don't keep changing back and forth.

Permanent standard time like Arizona and Hawaii.

Pushing the clocks forward interferes with your bodies natural circadian rhythm.

The Monday after "spring forward" is the most dangerous day to drive in to work because people have not adjusted to the time change.

Changing the clocks is stupid and accomplishes nothing. If you want to get off work and have "more daylight" pick a job with a schedule that starts at 6am.

Last time I checked Hawaii was on permanent daylight time. If they had their clocks set by their longitude they would be 1 hour later

What's the problem? The changing of the clocks is an inconvenience for many. Every year in March and November the same debate comes to light. Change them or not, it's not a major difference either way. As of now we have "fallen back" an hour, come March "spring ahead" ONLY 1/2 hour, thereby splitting the difference, and don't move them ever again.
