CyberTruck Is the Biggest Auto Industry Flop in Decades

The list of famous auto industry flops is long and storied, topped by stinkers like Ford's Edsel and exploding Pinto and General Motors's unsightly Pontiac Aztek crossover SUV.

Keep truckin', like the doo-dah man
Together, more or less in line
Just keep truckin' on'

Originally something to do with Camptown Races (before my time) and or drug dealers.

Popularized again by the Grateful Dead.

But is it a bigger flop than the Cybertruck ICE version, the Pontiac Aztek?

I give the finger to every cyber truck that drives by.

Not because of Musk (I started this before the 2020 election), but because it's a guarantee that whoever is driving that hideous piece of s*&^ is a douchebag deserving of the finger for just being a hideous piece of s*&^ driving douchebag.

I'm surprised the Tesla board hasn't already fired Musk.

To make matters worse, he's discontinuing their best selling model, the Model Y, sales in Europe are down 40-60% depending on the country, and every time he opens his mouth TSLA shares drop even further. TSLA's already down 56% since Trump's election.

My first car was an awful Nash Rambler. People would get a junk Nash and set up a booth at the county fair and raise money for charity by charging a buck to whack it with a sledge hammer. It was called "Smash the Nash".

Does that give anyone ideas?

Cybertruck ICE version, the Pontiac Aztek?

Looks like an Aztek, burns like a Pinto.

@#8 ... I'm surprised the Tesla board hasn't already fired Musk. ...

The Tesla Board is, imo, like the Trump Cabinet.

Chosen for loyalty to the leader.

Elon's Douche Panzers have been a bad joke since day one. I didn't think it was possible to out-douche the Humvee, but the super-genius pulled it off.

It's much worse.

That Aztek was only 8% more sales short of breaking even. They sold almost 28k a year, they needed 30k to break even, they projected they would sell 75k annual.

Cybertruck deliveries were just under 39k for 2024, with a goal of 250k annual, they need to sell at least 75k of them to break even with a $15k-$20k gross margin. Some estimates have put it at 200k annual required to break even.

#17 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2025-04-04 09:35 AM

I read a post elsewhere suggesting that the cyber-trucks be turned into septic tanks. I posted back that if the poster did that, he best pray that it didn't explode,

I've had long bed HD Chevys for decades that run and haul lots for years and many miles. Why would I pay more to buy an odd cyber truck that does less?

Why would I pay more to buy an odd cyber truck that does less?

People who buy cybertrucks have no intention of hauling or towing anything.

#22 | Posted by REDIAL at 2025-04-04 01:13 PM

#22 that's true for most truck sales.

#23 | Posted by oneironaut at 2025-04-04 01:18 PM

Cybertruck deliveries were just under 39k for 2024, with a goal of 250k annual.

39k is pretty good for a $100k product.

F-150 sales are about 759k a year, 250k seems high to begin with.

#24 | Posted by oneironaut at 2025-04-04 01:20 PM

I see quite a few cyber trucks here in silicon valley.

Reminds me of the days of the ModelS it's about being first and hip.

People that can afford these don't haul stuff, much like 90% of truck sales.

The lots full of rusting Cybertrucks says this is a flop.

It's not worth $100K and that's why its not selling. Well that and Musk being awful.

Tesla is taking a HUGE hit on Cybertrucks.

Now toss in the costs of recalls as well for Tesla.

Democrats adore making America and Americans into a flop. Look what they (an official political failure) lied about to give us as a President and VP. Those two (Joe and Kamala) were officially the biggest of flops by every possible measure of any country anywhere, and they could have got millions of citizens killed and lose everything.

Don't get too worked up about posts from username Robson.

It's just an ai bot that spits of random comments that don't really mean anything and are general attacks on democrats.

#31 | Posted by ClownShack at 2025-04-04 02:03 PM

Case in point, What does his common have to do with cyber trucks or this thread?

Nothing. It's just a vague statement, a word salad really, of attacks on democrats.

Note, again, the Aztec was only 8% off its break even goal and is attributed with ending the Pontiac brand.

#33 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2025-04-04 03:23 PM

Break even numbers are of course now skyrocketing towards the worst case scenario as Tesla continues to go deeper with the already significant discounts.
