Hundreds of Rural Hospitals at Risk of Closing

Hundreds of hospitals in rural America are in danger of closing because they can no longer afford to stay open, according to the Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform (CHQPR). The main reason: Insurance companies pay them much less than their big city counterparts for the same services. For example, in Trinity, TX, just 90 miles north of Houston, Mid-Coast Medical Center recently had to shutter because of this imbalance. The CHQPR report indicates 742 rural hospitals are at risk of closing, with over 300 of those being classified as being at "immediate risk." The CBO reports that Republicans' proposed cuts to Medicaid could leave more than 8.5 million people uninsured, forcing even more rural hospitals to close. Link: CBO Analysis

It's already happening in Okiehomie. Fall off your tractor, or get hurt on an oil rig out there in the fields, and it's an hour to the hospital in some larger community. And when you arrive, they will want you to pay in advance, and to present proof of coverage. Otherwise, you can go to the free clinic in Tulsa, OKC or Lawton. If you make it in time--they close at 4. Sadly, Okies do not understand the connection between what they vote for, the taxes they pay, and the quality of life they have...

For the GQP this is a feature, not a bug. I point toward the "Big Beautiful Bill" and the nearly trillion dollars in cuts to Medicaid so that the filthy rich, like Elmo, and rich corporations can get MASSIVE TAX CUTS. Rural hospitals are more reliant on Medicaid than their urban siblings. Closing rural hospitals means that their customers will be far further from care and as such more will die from what would normally be survivable health crises. These people are majority MAGAts and GQP voters. The GQP is killing their voters so that people who don't need tax cuts can continue to fleece actual tax payers.
