The president cited a number of false and misleading claims about homicides and youth crime in the nation's capital.

Trump announces he's taking over the DC police department to rescue the city from "crime, bloodshed, and bedlam." Violent crime in DC reached a 30 year low in 2024 and is down sharply again this year.

So then we'd only see a one year drop in the data, before returning to baseline.

But that's not what we are seeing.

We're seeing crime at lowest rates in 30 years.

The crime rate drop is also happening nationally.

The spike during the pandemic (which didn't come close to touching historical rates) was also national.

This line of argument is an excuse, nothing more nothing less.

The fact of the matter is the federalization of DC is a power grab predicated on a paper thin excuse.
