Are Democrats fumbling a golden opportunity?

Voters are souring on Trump -- but that doesn't mean they're turning back to the party.

Comments

More from the analysis ...

... .Democrats have a lot to be excited about when they look at President Donald Trump's polls.

Scores of voters have soured on his job performance since he took office. And that group of unhappy voters includes some of Trump's new 2024 converts -- the young voters, disaffected voters, and voters of color who left the Democratic coalition to join Trump's.

But Trump's losses aren't translating to Democratic gains. The polling so far suggests that the voters disillusioned by Trump similarly dislike the Democrats -- and are more likely to leave politics altogether than align themselves with the Democratic Party.

Congressional Democrats -- and their party's national brand -- remain dismal: Some 37 percent of voters view the party favorably, while about 60 percent view them unfavorably, according to YouGov's tracking surveys. ...

Are Democrats fumbling a golden opportunity?

Short answer, yes.

They're going to run the same play they have been since Clinton.

@#2 ... They're going to run the same play they have been since Clinton. ...

My guess, at this point, is that you are likely to be correct in your assessment.

DNC panel opens the door to removing David Hogg from his national post (May 12, 2025)
www.politico.com

... A Democratic National Committee panel on Monday recommended a new election for the post held by Vice Chair David Hogg, whose effort to challenge "asleep at the wheel" Democrats sparked a firestorm in the national party. ...

Yeah, the Democrats seem to be rallying around the lame Sen Schumer in a hope for revival, apparently missing the change in the electorate.

Will the Democrats learn in time for the 2026 mid-terms?

Time will tell.

But based upon what I've been seeing, I doubt it.

Why mess with suck?

The Democratic party establishment loves Trump simply because their billionaire donors set to gain handsomely from Trump's policies. If you doubt that. Explain why they are doing exactly nothing to stop Trump.

Yeah, my view at this point is ...

Will the Democrats realize their current shortcomings (can you say Sen Schumer? I knew you could) and adjust their strategies to reflect the changing electorate?

I'm less concerned about the past, but more concerned about the future.

And, along those lines, the DNC's apparent rejection of Mr Hogg's approach, may not be A Good Thing.

Minibar - Holiday From Myself (2001)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt ...

genius.com

...
If I was a friend of mine
I would surely be concerned
I'd recommend I take some time
Away from me

I think I need a holiday from myself
I need some time away from being me
I'm worried about my health
And I seem to be bad company

I need time
To be careless with my mouth
Not worry what I think about
'Cos it's all fine

I need the dawn
I never get to bed before
I don't sleep naked anymore
And I can't lie in

Imagine I could take a package deal
A SAGA tour of ancient Rhodes
A weekend break in Galashiels
Or circumnavigate the globe

I think I need
Two weeks in a caravan
To get away from who I am
And where I've been

So book me up
An all expenses pleasure cruise
Away from thinking about you
All the time

It's a bad sign
I need to kick back in the sun
I need to masquerade as someone else
I need to get myself some fun

I think I need a holiday from myself

@#13

Yup.

And, imo, the sooner the Democrats abandon Sen Schumer, the better.

Stated differently, the longer Democrats hold on to Sen Schumer, the worse it is for them.

Intaferon - Get Out of London (1983)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt ...

genius.com

...
Hold tight

Monday morning, wake up yawning
Break an egg, bust my head, maybe it's a warning
Ring on the bell, says it's half-past eight
Keys on the TV, hey, I'm gonna be late

I'm walking on the pavement, skipping all the lines
So the bears don't eat me, send me to the salt mines
Get on the bus, but the bus don't stop
My feet are sitting downstairs, my head on the top
I can't see out the window 'cause there ain't no sun
I think somebody's tellin' me to g-g-g-g-g-g-g-get out of London

My feets keep movin', and I don't wear any socks
Can't stop singing, head ting-a-lingin'
Left my house, now I hang out in a phone box
Making coffins out of bits of old wood
Sell 'em cheap to the council, though I know it's not good
To be a traitor, collaborator
Still, I'd rather be a snitch than a cocktail waiter
Commit my crime now, pay my penalty later
Okay, all right, I know I'm doin' wrong
But save it till tomorrow I got to g-g-g-g-g-g-get out of London

Last night I lost my purity, it started with a kiss
I settled in to revel in a night of bedded bliss
I had a bee in my bonnet, a tiger in my tank
I was on my maiden voyage, but my liner just sank
They call me Jack of Hearts, some would say a knave
My mother was the Queen of Tarts, my baby was a sex slave
Pa's selling weapons to the Red Army Faction
I burn myself in public just to get a reaction
Tattoo my face, so my race is run
My car is on fire, got to g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-get out of London

Don't wear a suit, don't wear a smile
Don't wear my spikes out on the golden mile
Keep my hand on my gun, I keep my eye on my mines
I keep my heart on the beat when I'm running through the front lines
Chain gang chasin' me, but I'm quick as a fox
An' I rock my body to the sound of the box

The louder you scream, the faster we go

@#16 ... Who do you all recommend for his replacement? ...

imo, it is not a "who" I recommend, but more of a question about a person who should properly represent the Democratic Party going forward.

And I do admit, up front, that I have dodged the question your current alias poised.

Why? well, because it is not up to me to decide that answer, I'm not the demographic the Democrats need to address going forward..

It is up to the Democratic Party who they want to represent themselves going forward.

Will the Democrats rise to that challenge?

Time will tell.

The problem with replacing Schumer, is that then NY loses all the swagger it has in committee assignments.

Its like you Lumpers know nothing about how your own Congress works.
