Supremes Okay Trump to Fire FTC Commissioner

The U.S. Supreme Court allowed President Trump to fire Rebecca Slaughter, a Democratic member of the Federal Trade Commission, for now while it hears arguments in the case in December.

SCOTUS is going to hear a case on whether to overturn a 1935 decision that blocked presidents from firing independent regulators based on policy (or personal) disagreements alone.

This is on top of SCOTUS allowing Trump to fire the FTC commissioner, so you can see where this is going.[image or embed]

Where is this going?

An American economy that fully matches Trump's level of sanity.

"The court's three liberals " Justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson " dissented. Kagan wrote the court had "all but overturned" the Humphrey's Executor precedent.

That's the precedent set in 1935 when the Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the president could not dismiss FTC commissioners the way he could his own Cabinet or other members of his administration.

It said that Congress had created the FTC to perform quasi-judicial, quasi-legislative functions and therefore intended it to be politically independent. That decision has been reaffirmed dozens of times since it was decided 85 years ago."

King Drumpf owns all 3 branches of Gov now... and Trumpers are SO proud to finally have the Big Daddy to spank them when they are bad now.

It has nothing to do with SCOTUS, there's only three branches of government.

Why do people no understand the constitution, Congress can't just dream up independent branches of government.

@#2 ... Where is this going? ...

Do you really have to ask?

As an example, look at what President Erdoğan has done to Hungary, specifically, the media, the economy.

It has everything to do with Trump's Supreme Court Justices giving Trump anything he demands.

You're so gassy your brain is suffocating.

Last week the Fed cut overnights rates by 25 bp. Since then, yields on US Treasuries with maturities of one year or longer are up approx. 10bp. Trump's man at the Fed, Stephen Miran, is calling for cuts of 200bp by the Fed. If Der Dotard gains the power to fire Jay Powell and then does so, rates will whipsaw and end up much higher, for a long time to come, and the US economy will become a shell of what it once was. Remember the early 1930's? That's OK if you don't because you will get to re-live them...

Abolish the Supreme Court!

Quelle surprise.

Chief Justice Robert likely will go down in history as presiding over the most overly political Supreme Court in history.

Biden should've listened when the option to expand the court was on the table. He actively sabotaged himself and the country by not doing so. We need to gerrymander all Blue States to secure a supermajority in Congress, and neuter Roberts and his cabal of Russian mafiosos.

Why let him fire her - especially when there is already precedent?

Keep her in the position, and if its overturned, then fire her.

That makes more sense to me.

Just like in sports - you get suspended but if you appeal - you still get to play. IDK.
