Here's a good ol' movie, not a great one that everyone knows like, The Third Man, but similar noir genre. Directed by Orson Welles, starring Edward G. Robinson, Loretta Young, and Welles as the Nazi mastermind of the German Death Camps, tracked down by Robinson in small town America right after the war.

I dunno about the "garbage" aspect, as I am not a big movie fan.

But by the end of February, "things kind of dropped out on us," said Rubio, owner and president of D'Place Entertainment, which operates theaters in California cities including in Barstow, Cathedral City and Bonsall. His chain's revenue is still ahead of last year but only "marginally."

"I wouldn't call it apocalyptic, but I would call it abysmal, so I guess it's a step up," he said with a laugh.

Rubio is luckier than many.

My question ...

Why go to a movie theater where you may have to suffer through the person sitting next to you having a personal trauma on their cell phone?

With the advances of home theater, are movie theaters becoming obsolete?

Asked differently, why go to a movie theater when you have the huge screen in the comfort of your living room?

Why go to the movie theater when you can watch it at home with cheaper eats and drinks.

I hear ya, especially given how good even modest home theater set ups can be. Having said that, watching a flick on the big screen is just fun. The theaters are now set up for maximum comfort and more and more have a full bar.

I remember watching "Polar Express" at IMAX and it was 3-D. That was a great experience.

Home audio system here is pretty solid 15Hz up through 23kHz.

If needed, or desired, but rarely used, decibel levels can be in the 120dB range.

Rarely used because neighbors seem to have objections. ;)

And, also, 120dB volume is not successful for future hearing purposes.

Our home system is okay. An 8 year old wall-mounted Samsung 65" flat screen with a decent soundbar and subwoofer. Our lower level layout of the house is weird. Small kitchen and family room paired with a good size living room and dining room with a vaulted ceiling. The small family room does work well for a 65" TV and the sound bar is good enough for that space.

I run about 2.5 K watts. I try to keep it down at night.
