Smathers even accused incumbent Pepper's sister of being a thespian (in the Panhandle of Florida, natch). A true "accusation."

Pepper's loss was a major upset, ending his long Senate career and demonstrating the potency of McCarthy-era tactics in Southern politics.

Donald Trump sleeps in public, in front of the media, in front of dignitaries, and some people want to focus on Joe Biden's alleged lack of acuity.
