A friend of mine was in Dan Quayles class at DePauw University in Greencastle, IN.
He said Quayle was as dumb as we think he is.
Another son of a wealthy and powerful politician who got the velvet stay-out-of-Vietnam experience.

One classmate of Dan Quayle fell out of her pantyhose when she heard that he was astonishingly elected a US Senator.

Guess she didn't know this good-for-nothing frat boy was a congressman beforehand.

I served during Vietnam. I think a draft is a good idea. Why? Because once Senators and Congress people's children and family are required to go into battle and start becoming casualties, they will consider war from a different perspective. Right now congress has NO skin in the game.
As for VA funding, it should be dollar for dollar. If you are going to give a Trillion dollars to the bomb makers, they should be taxed at 90% to support the war effort. No more "War for Profit"!!
Then we give the VA the exact amount of funding as the bomb makers to care for our warriors once their broken bodies and corpses come home.

My first unofficial and then official military instructors were Vietnam veterans like you:

Two Puerto Rican brothers (one a US Army Ranger; the other a medic) I worked with in NYC before I enlisted; then the DIs at boot camp, then a Special Forces NCO and an ASA NCO who commissioned and became a US Army Captain.

They taught me well.
