"Due to the Hungarian Constitution, based on the post-World War II Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany, the prime minister has a leading role in the executive branch as he selects Cabinet ministers and has the exclusive right to dismiss them (similarly to the competences of the German federal chancellor).

The Economist Intelligence Unit rated Hungary a "flawed democracy" in 2023, ranking 50th globally, the fourth-lowest in the EU.[2] Freedom House no longer considers Hungary a full democracy, awarding a score of 66/100.[3]"

"[Trump's] the boss and ... he's a great leader, fantastic leader. In Europe and around the world, they respect him."

Europe and the rest of the world likely would disagree.

My concern is this part of fmr Pres Trump's comments...

... Trump added that the European autocrat is "a noncontroversial figure because he said, This is the way it's going to be,' and that's the end of it, right? He's the boss ...

This is the way it is going to be??? Sounds vaguely familiar...

If anyone is unsure about Frump's plans for his second term in office, they haven't been paying attention.

@#10 ... they haven't been paying attention. ...

Or, dare I say, they have been paying attention, and they want an autocracy instead of a Democratic Republic.

I feel like some people think it's a fun time of Trump Pwning liberals.

They don't understand how fragile democracy actually is.

And how difficult it is to reestablish it once it falls into autocracy.

So . . . Trump invited Viktor Orban to Mar-a-Lago to give him some tutorage on how to word smith a "flawed democracy" in Trump's new Constitution.

Thinking outside the box . . . .

After Trump removes the U.S. from NATO, is anybody else getting the impression that there is conspiracy to establish a powerful military coalition consisting of Russia, Hungary

    AND the United States
> against Europe.

In other words, WWIII.

"After Trump removes the U.S. from NATO"

He can't. Not now. Not that easily.

Congress has approved legislation that would prevent any president from withdrawing the United States from NATO without approval from the Senate or an Act of Congress.

And I believe that Biden has signed it.

Thank you, DONNER

I was thinking more along the lines of if/when Trump was elected Dictator and either abolished Congress or replaced it with bobbleheads in accordance with his new Constitution ~ which, God forbid, may not be too far in the offing.

I think the GOP has bigger plans than we can even imagine.

Granted. I too am looking forward to Dictator Day.

But not for the same reasons as Trumpy.

Which is the point.

There are many many Americans like me ready to stand up to Trumpy and his red hats.

And Hollywood is on the case!

A movie about it will be released in April. That should be interesting. I am eager to see their take on what can happen.

Pretty sure is not gonna make America look all that great.

Every incoming president is shocked that they actually have so little power without going to the Congress, which is a good thing. It's Civics 101, separation of powers, three equal branches of government. But in his case, he was shocked that he didn't have dictatorial-type powers to send U.S. forces places or to move money around within the budget. And he looked at Putin and Xi and that nutcase in North Korea as people who were like him in terms of being a tough guy."

Trump's telling America and the world exactly what he'll do in a second term:

Make every effort to destroy democracy so he can rule as an authoritarian like Xi, Kim Jung Un, Putin, Orban

When someone tells you exactly what they'll do, listen to them.

BTW, "Witness 5" just did an interview where he outlined his testimony to the special counsel:

how Trump had Nauta move boxes from Mar-A-Lago to Trump's plane to keep them out of the FBI's hands.

Furious Hungary summons US envoy over Biden's dictatorship' comment
www.theguardian.com

... Hungary summoned the US ambassador over comments by the US president, Joe Biden, who said the prime minister, Viktor Orbn, wants a dictatorship.

The Hungarian leader traveled to Florida on Friday for talks with Donald Trump during a visit in which he did not meet with anyone from the Biden administration.

During a campaign event in Philadelphia, Biden referred to his rival's meeting with the Hungarian politician: "You know who he's meeting with today down at Mar-a-Lago? Orbn of Hungary, who stated flatly he doesn't think democracy works, he's looking for dictatorship."

Rights groups and European capitals have repeatedly raised concerns that Orbn and his Fidesz party have undermined checks and balances in Hungary. In 2014, Orbn memorably announced that he was building an "illiberal" state.

And Hungary's western allies have also grown increasingly worried about Hungary's ties with Moscow and Beijing, while relations with Washington have reached a low point.

But Biden's comments have met with outrage from Hungarian officials. ...
