More from the article...

... According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service, when Americans eat vegetables, they're mostly eating potatoes and tomatoes.

In 2019, the average American downed almost 50 pounds of potatoes over the course of the year, and ate around 31 pounds of tomatoes -- and it's not totally surprising that French fries and pizza sauce significantly contributed to our annual totals. But in the future, when the USDA starts adding up our yearly veggie totals, tomatoes may take the top spot on a technicality. Because there's a chance that the agency will reclassify potatoes, moving them from starchy vegetables into the same category as grains, rice, and other carbs.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee -- made up of representatives from the USDA and the Department of Health and Human Services -- are putting together their dietary guidelines for 2025, and potatoes may be reshuffled. The dietary guidelines put foods into five familiar categories -- dairy, fruit, grains, protein, and vegetables -- but the increasing prevalence of different diets and "eating patterns" mean that those categories may be changed. "The panel wants to make sure everyone is getting enough nutrients, whether eating more potatoes, bread, or beans," the Journal explains. ...

Why are lawmakers pushing to keep potatoes classified as a vegetable?
scrippsnews.com

... This week a bipartisan-led effort -- that included the backing of U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Michael Bennet in a group of 14 senators -- targeted any attempt to reclassify potatoes as a grain, instead of their current classification as a vegetable.

The push comes amid the Dietary Guidelines for Americans process where lawmakers and officials review public agency comments as they work to update the country's dietary guidelines.

The group of senators sent a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Thomas Vilsack and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra to oppose any reclassification of potatoes. ...

Potatoes are a starch.

Squashes are fruits.

Eggplants are berries.

If you take the time to read the article, you'll see there is more to potatoes than "starch."

... Squashes are fruits. ...

As are tomatoes.

So, what's yer point?

In #4 I agreed with your #3 comment.

So, how am I a "proggie" but more critically, how are the monsters under your bed (the "proggies") destroying America?

Yea. It's hard to read a person's "tone" posting.

A lot of times sarcasm gets lost due to it.

#3 was pointing out how a lot of foods we once believed to fit in one category, have more recently been discovered to fit better in other categories. Bananas are also berries.

#8 & 9 was just me taking the piss out of it.

#14 was my explanation for the nonsense of #8&9.

This post is explaining all my prior posts.

My next post will explain this post.

Yeah, you said potatoes were a starch. But they are more than that, as te article notes.

... #8 & 9 was just me taking the piss out of it. ...

Yeah, you were whining about some political thing.

... #14 was my explanation for the nonsense of #8&9. ...

Admitting the prior nonsense of your posts.

Maybe take a step back at this point.

Or even let the keyboard rest until the morrow.

Your comments seem to be self-contradictory. While I have seen that in other posters, I've not seen that in your comments.

Have a good night.

Potatoes are tubers.

So are carrots.

Same as turnips and radishes.

But onions are bulbs.

Are bulbs vegetables?

Potatoes are the only food you can live solely on.
Maybe they should have their own classification.
But I agree with AU, I always put them in the starch category when I'm planning a menu.

I hate Google so much.

I've got it mostly working for now.

They don't tell you what they really want - which seems to be SPF, DMARC, and DKIM - but it'll work most of the time with just SPF and DMARC. Most recent fail message I saw claimed SPF wasn't there, which it was. Fine, I'll set up DMARC and just /dev/null the DMARC messages, because I don't care enough to read them, and nobody else does either. I really miss the old days where you could tell somebody "Sorry, the problem is on the recipient end, tell them to get their mail admin to fix their filters, you're sending fully compliant SMTP."

But Google and Microsloth are so big you just have to keep tweaking to get past their mess.

(I miss the really old days even more. Somebody sent a spam, you email their admin, they got yelled at and told never to do that again. But then AOL happened.)

Me neither. Because they're tubers and are the starch to go along with protein main and veggie side.

But when fries and ketchup and pizza are major sources of "vegetables," well...

"Is goatmam still kickin'?"

I doubt it. He was a severe Type One diabetic. The last I heard was that he had two amputations, his weight blew up to 400 lbs. he refused to follow doctors orders, he was self-adjusting his insulin to over-compensate for his eating habits and e-mails were being returned as undelivered.

If he's "still kickin' he's not in very good shape.
