An instantly historic image of the scene, captured in time by an Associated Press photographer, shows Trump stumbling off the stage, dripping with blood and surrounded by Secret Service agents. Moments after his brush with death, the former president raised a fist in defiance, his lips forming a single word: "Fight."

"The polls already suggest that Trump is likely to win back the presidency in November, after a torrid few months for his opponent and a criminal conviction that has had little impact on his popularity.

If history tells us anything, the events of Saturday will only increase his support. In the months after Mr Reagan was shot, the newly-elected Republican president saw a poll boost of eight points.

On Monday, Trump will greet supporters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to announce his running mate at the Republican Party's national convention."

Yep.
Worst outcome possible.

Then there's this predictable gem:

Within hours of the shooting, Trump's campaign sent out a text asking voters to contribute to the campaign. "They're not after me, they're after you," the message read.

Yep, the opposite of what Joe's debate performance did for Biden supporters. Getting them to contribute and motivating them to vote.

So much for a "bloodless revolution".

Trump wants it that way. Someone else may try again.

Persistence is a virtue you know.

Had this happened as an Oct Surprise, it might have ended the race.

But 4 mos out?

This will be put aside as a consideration by most in a few weeks; the only people who matter now are low info Indies, because all the Red and Blue votes are already taken.

I would argue the worst out one possible would have been the assassination attempt was successful.

The best would be no shooting at all. Period.

#13 | Posted by YAV at 2024-07-14 02:17 PM | Reply

well, yeah.

i meant an outcome in the confines of a shooting occurring.

Ah. Understood.

In, it shouldn't. It doesn't change who Trump is and what he'll do.

If anything, it'll probably make his actions in office more extreme.

Yeah, a great way to win over Independents whose vote you still have to earn is to insult them by calling them "low info". I still clearly remember Republicans using that exact phrase when they were stuck in loser mode back in 2012. Don't act like a loser.
