Tim Waltz has proven popular in the midwest with labor unions and with his background in the military and education he sounds like he could be President all on his own.

No no no.

He is great. Don't get me wrong. He is absolutely amazing.

But he is a better administrator than hardcore politician.

We don't need a slick politician we need someone who will attract the rustbelt voters and keep trumpers from freaking out.

A Jewish VP is unlikely to do this.

Pennsylvania is by far the most important swing state for Democrats to hold on their quest for 270. If the Dems lose PA, Trump is going to win the EC, it's truly that simple.

Shapiro is the most popular politician in that key rustbelt state, though his unquestioned support for Israel is a real problem with many in the Democratic coalition. However, as we see over and over again, Shapiro can likely blunt much of his deserved criticism by taking the nuanced position of supporting Israel and condemning Hamas' atrocities while still decrying the death and destruction being wrought upon millions of Gazans caught in a middle they have no way of escaping.

At least for me, I don't view this as a binary choice. There are multiple wrongs being perpetrated upon both Israelis and Gazans which neither group of non-combatants deserve.

What about Mark Kelly? Military background, strong on Ukraine and gun control, worked on the border control plan that Trump made the GOP dump, moderate enough to reassure Never Trumpers and swing voters who lean right. Could help sure up AZ and NV.

Regarding his military career, he retired as a CSM just before his unit was set to deploy. That left a bad taste with many guardsmen here in Minnesota. Running for congress was more important.

Particularly those of us who were eligible to retire but stayed in our positions in order to deploy with our units.
7 and 8 regarding Minnesota Gov. Walz.

The fighting dems movement was important or have people already forgotten about Bush's horrible war?

To MAATM regarding Gov Matt Waltz (D-Minn.):

"Regarding his military career, he retired as a CSM just before his unit was set to deploy. That left a bad taste with many guardsmen here in Minnesota. Running for congress was more important."

An understandable POV. Without knowing all the facts, perhaps the CSM was passing the torch to someone or CSM Waltz was already the Congressional nominee. How close was he was to retirement age? Years ago I knew some fellows who were experts at collecting all the scare badges, but never deployed because they held "critical" civilian positions.

I trust Matt Waltz did a good job as congressman or governor, but I have little visibility on him.

Trump: "Get out and vote just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years it will be fixed. It'll be fine. You won't have to vote anymore...In four years you don't have to vote again. We'll have it fixed so good your not gonna have to vote."

He was retirement age. Many of us stayed in post 9/11 knowing we would be deployed somewhere in some capacity. I ended up being attached to a Reserve Hospital. 90% of the officers were retirement eligible but choose to leave their practices and families behind. Walz did not. I suspect the right will make with that.
He has been a very good Gov. with a great Lt. Gov. as his running mate.

MATTM

Thank you for the info, MATTM. If you were attached to a USAR hospital, I take it you were a medic. So, it's either Gov. Waltz or Gov. Beshear for me (so far).

Medic - Division Psychiatrist.
The first rotation was nicknamed taskforce Medicare, Hospital Commander 72, Dentists 67 and 66, ER doc 68, internist 74, assorted nurses all over 60. Oldest enlisted was the CSM at 68 but the rest much younger. I was the youngest Doc at 50.

Are you aware that Tim Walz used IVF in order to have his family, daughter Hope, age 23, and son Gus, age 17? Doing the math, son was born in 2007, so IVF was in 2006 (when he left the Guard for those of you who don't know.) You are going to fault him for expanding his family? Not a good look, IMO. And good luck to those who try to Swift Boat him on that issue. Friendly reminder, we don't always know what is going on with someone in their private lives, so judging without all the facts sometimes blows up in your face.

According to Wikipedia he left the Guard in 2005. It takes several months to process, mine took 18, so probably submitted paperwork in 2004 when his unit was deploying.
Since when do those that engage in Swift Boating use facts or have any empathy?
