Kamala Harris is seeking to appeal to moderate voters without alienating the left of her Democratic party as the vice-president tries to find a winning political formula to defeat Donald Trump in the November election.

"The selection of Walz is part of Harris's effort to find the political sweet spot on the centre left that will maximise her chances of beating Trump in a close election likely to be decided in just a few battleground states.

Since entering the race on July 21, Harris has already galvanised large parts of the Democratic base " including young voters, women and people of colour " that were uninspired by President Joe Biden's re-election bid.

But she knows this cannot happen at the expense of appealing to a broader audience.

"When elected, we will govern on behalf of all Americans," she said at a rally with Walz in Philadelphia on Tuesday."

"Harris now calls for more police funding, expanding access to health insurance through the Affordable Care Act and boosting the number of Border Patrol agents."

The ACA is a grift. It funnels money from taxpayers and the insured to insurance companies and their political benefactors. Expensive health insurance with high co-pays, deductibles and maximum out of pockets is not healthcare.

In the past both Joe and Kamala supported Medicare for all. What does she support now? Who knows? She won't take questions and she's said nothing about policy.

The difference between Vance and Walz is Walz likes his lane... he's done well there... he's not ashamed of it... he's ambitious but not greedy.

Vance hates where he is from... he doesn't want to go back... even if it means creating change for those he left behind... There is no ego trip in that... but there is in "po' boy dun did good fer hizsef". Being rich means he doesn't have to go back... he is the ultimate chameleon.

" The ACA is a grift. "

Define "grift".

Wait ... are you using Bellringer's Dictionary?

" I was clear, it funnels money from taxpayers and the insured to insurance companies and their benefactors."

Yeah, that's called insurance. It's been that way since before you were born.

What the ACA did was blend in the high-risk pool with everyone else. Prior to that, higher-risk folks were paying 10x the regular price, and the boomers were just about to start joining that high-risk pool.

" it funnels money from taxpayers and the insured to insurance companies and their benefactors."

That's NOT grift.

Again, what's your definition?

Just because you can't read and have no clue does not mean Kamala doesn't have a plan regarding strengthening the ACA and pushing for Medicare for all.

Unlike Trumpy who has clearly shown he would undermine and destroy the ACA and reduce Medicare coverage with no alternative.

If Harris is smart, she will let Lord Marmalade answer all of the
journalists/moderators questions first, so he can't Parrot her answers
to the questions. Make him go out there and TRY to sound cognizant and
aware of the issues and formulate understandable responses. Impossible,
unless he is given all the questions ahead of time, and has his speech writers
write him decent answers.

The questions should not be given to the candidates ahead of time.

Is she going to push Medicare for all? You've seen her say this or read it on her campaign site?

Is that why the ACA foundation, the individual mandate, was first promoted by Republicans?

How the Heritage Foundation, a Conservative Think Tank, Promoted the Individual Mandate (2013)
www.forbes.com

... This came up at Tuesday's Western Republican Leadership Conference Debate, where Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich tussled on the question:

ROMNEY: Actually, Newt, we got the idea of an individual mandate from you.

GINGRICH: That's not true. You got it from the Heritage Foundation.

ROMNEY: Yes, we got it from you, and you got it from the Heritage Foundation and from you.

GINGRICH: Wait a second. What you just said is not true. You did not get that from me. You got it from the Heritage Foundation.

ROMNEY: And you never supported them?

GINGRICH: I agree with them, but I'm just saying, what you said to this audience just now plain wasn't true.

(CROSSTALK)

ROMNEY: OK. Let me ask, have you supported in the past an individual mandate?

GINGRICH: I absolutely did with the Heritage Foundation against Hillarycare.

ROMNEY: You did support an individual mandate?

ROMNEY: Oh, OK. That's what I'm saying. We got the idea from you and the Heritage Foundation.

GINGRICH: OK. A little broader.

ROMNEY: OK.

(Romney was prepared to go on, but Michele Bachmann, in her usual role as the person who makes the debates less useful, interjected and changed the subject. ...

"the individual mandate, was first promoted by Republicans"

Let's be frank, shall we?

EVERY TIME folks OF ANY STRIPE have been locked in a room, and forced to come up with an answer, it's always boiled down to an individual mandate. ALWAYS.

And why? Because when faced with the actual task of balancing costs and services, the only way it's attainable is with an individual mandate. You know...the ACTUAL equation, instead of a partisan purse fight.

@#13

I do not disagree. Increasing the size of the insured pool.

Back in the mid- late90's, though, the GOP was all concerned about having to pay rising hospital costs because there were so many uninsured people showing up in the emergency room for treatment. And the hospitals had to spread that cost out over those who had insure and could afford to pay.

So, after being in favor of the individual mandate in the 90's, the GOP turned against it because, well, fmr Pres Obama and the GOP's "Just So No" campaign to anything fmr Pres Obama was in favor of.

so dems admit it then....... captain stolen valor is more liberal than "the most liberal senator in the senate" ....a body that

included Bernie Sanders.

but of course the entire premise is false which is why govtrack had to delete that well researched ( dems said at the time )

study of senators.

but this won't work....

Kammy's makeover to the center is like "turning Whoopi Goldberg into Halle Berry."

and all the lies will not go unexposed.

AND for years the "committee to elect harris.....the democrat media ...as well as kamala herself !!!

for years lied !! about Joes mental condition.

---so what we have now is a democrat donor selected nominee who was so bad !!! ...so incompetent and so

poorly thought of ( 0 electoral votes in 2020 ) by everyone that the media lied about joe being

"sharp as a tack" and "this is biden at his best" ( am joe ) because a dementia riddled biden

was better than her...

Normal dictates would have me say something like "good luck with that" but then I'd be lying and I left the

democrat party a long time ago.

What a riot. That's actually the LAST thing you want.

Here, I'll prove it:

Was Trump lying when he claimed his J6 crowd was bigger than MLK's "I have a dream" crowd?

(This is where Shemp does his best Josh Hawley impersonation. )

Run, Shempie, run!

and finally..let's put one of your little leftist-dogma klan daily talking points from the white house to rest.

I am quite sure that Kamala Harris is a black woman....

because as Biden himself said.. I want a black woman...

she has to be a black woman because those were and continue to be her only qualifications.

OVERHEARD:

in a joint press conference today Hillary CLinton and Kamala Harris gave a joint statement.

Visitor and Republicans can't talk about the ACA and what is wrong with it foe them. It's other name, given it by Republicans, is "Obamacare!" and rhey can't repeal ans replace as they swore thry woul do because mullions of Americans depend on it for "affoedabke healthcare." It's like Medicare which was called Communism when it was proposed and demonized by, none other than Ronald Reagan furing the first few years of its existence until it just became an accepted part of American life which it continues to be today. Already the same thing has happened to the ACA so Republicans pass ridiculous tax cuts for the rich which reduces feeral revenue with littke or no benefit to the economy but lets them scream about our debt . Reagan, Bush, Bush, Trump have all tried to sell this lie but it doesn't work because it is a big lie; the money saved by the wealthy never trtickles down and never will no matter how many times they run the same play. Didn't work against Social Security, didn't wotk against Medicare, didn't work against Obamacare and it never will because people living in the richest bation on Earth just don't believe we xan't provide a minimum levek of healthcare for Americams even if the rich have to pay their fair share of taxes. And the whining about "the debt: in the country with the most billionaires just doesn't fool antone. I think most Americans would be ok with a small tax increase on billionaires so that we can keep funding a safety net for Americans.

An apropos article from four years ago ...

Biden's VP pick: Why Kamala Harris embraces her biracial roots (2020)
www.bbc.com

... US Senator Kamala Harris - chosen by Joe Biden as his Democratic vice-presidential candidate - is known as a prominent black politician. But she has also embraced her Indian roots.

"My name is pronounced "comma-la", like the punctuation mark," Kamala Harris writes in her 2018 autobiography, The Truths We Hold.

The California senator, daughter of an Indian-born mother and Jamaican-born father, then explains the meaning of her Indian name.

"It means 'lotus flower', which is a symbol of significance in Indian culture. A lotus grows underwater, its flowers rising above the surface while the roots are planted firmly in the river bottom."

Early in life, young Kamala and her sister Maya grew up in a house filled with music by black American artists. Her mother would sing along to Aretha Franklin's early gospel, and her jazz-loving father, who taught economics at Stanford University, would play Thelonius Monk and John Coltrane on the turntable. ...

Her mother made sure her two daughters were aware of their background.
The Washington Post via Getty Images Senator Kamala Harris, with sister and advisor Maya Lakshmi Harris, prepares to speak at a 2019 eventThe Washington Post via Getty Images
Senator Kamala Harris and her sister, Maya Lakshmi Harris, are close

"My mother understood very well she was raising two black daughters. She knew that her adopted homeland would see Maya and me as black girls, and she was determined to make sure we would grow into confident black women," she wrote.

"Harris grew up embracing her Indian culture, but living a proudly African-American life," wrote the Washington Post last year.

When she ran for a senate seat in 2015, the Economist magazine described her as the "daughter of an Indian cancer researcher and a Jamaican economics professor, she is the first woman, first African-American and first Asian attorney general of California". ...
