Zeyneb Sayılgan: I had just finished teaching a class on "the Muslim Mary". Many non-Muslims who attended were puzzled to find out that Muslims had a connection with Mary at all, and had no knowledge of how important she is to our belief and practice. This came as no surprise. Half of Americans report they know "not much" or "nothing at all" about Islam.

It's a nice little read from, "Zeyneb Saylgan is the Muslim Scholar at the Institute for Islamic, Christian and Jewish Studies in Baltimore".

Her story, really, and her daughter, Maryam, which is Mary's Arabic name in the Qur'an.

I suppose God can knock up any woman he wants to. Mary must have had quite the womb to merit the Holy ----.

My understanding is that all powerful beings, if there are any, are all powerful and wouldn't need to get all sticky.

Happy Nihilism!

Zeus had the right idea.

He turned into swans and bulls and cuckoos and a------------- and women couldn't withstand his mighty girth.

Y'all belueve in whatever nonsense you want but science is real whether you like it or not though Republicans want to kill science education want to ill science educatiom and start teaching Christian theology.

Thankfully. Most people grow up and realize Santa and the Easter bunny are just stories and fiction.

Unfortunately it's not the same for the Jesus.

Merry Christmas!

A 16 year old unmarried pregnant female?

Mary would have been stoned to death if Joseph hadn't come up with that "son of God" story.

Best "Honest, I never laid a hand on her" virgin birth lie ever told. It's been viral for centuries.

Jesus was a real person who obviously believed the story himself.

However, he was in enemy territory. He was one. They were many. He shoulda kept his mouth shut.

Put her on MTV's "16 and Pregnant".

Also, wasn't 16 old to be getting pregnant in those pre biblical days?

Mary was an old maid.

She's lucky God knocked her up.

I'm sure there were some 14 year olds who would have been a better choice.

God must have been horny and drunk and just took what he could get.

There was no virgin birth. She was a pure woman, mistranslated into virgin.

It is written in the Bible that Jesus was Joseph's son (see below).

Also, the Messiah had to come from the line of David which was Joseph's side. Jesus called himself the Son of Man. He also called himself the Son of God. And the son of David.

Luke 4:22
And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not thisJoseph's son?
John 1:45
Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son ofJoseph.
John 6:42
And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son ofJoseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?

Peace to you all.

"There was no virgin birth. She was a pure woman, mistranslated into virgin."

Correct! Apparently there have been a lot of mistranslations in the Bible. Because the supposed Word of a God is not inerrant.
(As you just pointed out)

Also there has never been a medically validated virgin pregnancy in humans.

As for humans rising from the dead. There are a lot of cases of humans that we thought were dead who later came back to life (because they were not really dead). We even had to put bells outside coffins with a string that ran inside in case the corpse woke up.

So if Jesus had a near death experience it is not really a miracle. If he did indeed rise from his grave then he was never dead in the first place (as in brain dead).

In fact no human has ever truly "come back from the dead" in the sense of being biologically dead and then "returning to life"; once brain death occurs, it is considered irreversible and cannot be reversed by current medical technology.

"It is written in the Bible ... "

Just because "it is written" in the Bible does not mean it is true.

The Bible was originally translated into English under the direction of King James, who also had the last word and wanted to be seen as the great king who allowed the people to have their savior I suppose...

I believe that Jesus really existed and was the Messiah and I believe in the resurrection, but not the virgin birth.

I believe that Jesus came from God but his words have been twisted to benefit the rulers of the day
through the Christian Church starting with Paul/Saul.

I believe the truth about Jesus is most important but you have to dig through all the half truths and blatant lies to get to the bottom of it.

Anyway, have a great holiday season dude :)

"It is written in the Bible ... "

The Bible says Methuselah lived 969 years, and Ruth had children in her 90s.

So ... clearly, you can believe it if it's in the Bible!

Corky,
Thanks for sharing. I grew up Jewish in a Christian town. I was taught to believe that Jesus was a helluvah nice guy even if he wasn't the Messiah, and never could understand why the Muslims hated us so much. One thing the Rabbi did indoctrinate us with was a respect for differences in religious beliefs. To bad that isn't so common in these parts.

I'll give it a read.

Thanks for like the almost only on topic post on the thread, M7!

I had a candidate for a high level tech management job in Dallas in the 80s; a Jewish guy.

The problem was that back then the closest synagogue was way down in San Antonio, lol.

I had no idea that Mary was honored by Islam! The closest synagogue to my current home is about an hour and I am not a member. I left organized religion decades ago, andI went through a long period of agnosticism. Oddly enough, it was SCIENCE that cemented my belief in a higher power. The more I learned about Chemistry and Biology, the harder it became to deny that living creatures on earth are the result of deliberate and purposeful design.
