"We are living in the most momentous and dangerous of times. I do not need to describe the grave nature of the threats that we face. We are in an era of rearmament. And Europe is ready to massively boost its defense spending. Both, to respond to the short-term urgency to act and to support Ukraine but also to address the long-term need to take on much more responsibility for our own European security.ReArm Europe could mobilize close to EUR 800 billion Euros for a safe and resilient Europe. We will continue working closely with our partners in NATO." Signed, EU President Ursula von der Leyen.

Europe is stepping up to save Ukraine without the US. Thanks to Trumpf, America will be left with two nations as friends, Russia and Israel. And both countries are led by ICC-indicted war criminals.

CORIOLANUS

"America will be left with two nations as friends, Russia and Israel."

And both of them dependent on Trump for military assistance if each is to carry out their missions.

It's a tossup which will be the first to scam the dumbest President in U,S. history.

They're doing this because they correctly see the United States as being the enemy, along with Russia.

I hope that your simple-mined triumphalism feels good.

Your life is headed downhill.

You people are perverse.

None of you are going to see a penny of that money Trump/Musk is "saving".

You voted yourself into peonage.

So you're gonna tell them they don't have a right to do this?

"don't defend yourselves. we don't trust you to manage this anyway."

something like that?

Who is going to tell them to stop because they don't have the right to do this?

Is this about the defense or about the.........money?

I really don't see why they couldn't have been doing this all along.

"I really don't see why they couldn't have been doing this all along."

They could have.

Trump was definitely right about Europe. They've let the US cover the cost of the defense of the continent. Now they are massing forces to a posture in which they can collectively defend themselves.

I know Trump and Hegseth sound nasty, but this is that come-to-Jesus moment that Europe needed. If there is a war in Europe, China is very likely to exploit the sitch to take Taiwan. The Pacific is the US's military priority. That means that US forces would shift their focus there.

Europe is sort of an easy fight. There isn't really an outcome where Russia achieves anything that the rest of Europe doesn't concede to. The Pacific is a different story. You would have fighters flying from some location like Hawaii or Alaska, getting drug behind a tanker to the front line, doing their vul, and then being drug back to Alaska or Hawaii. I've done it in bombers and it's a tough ride. In a single seat fighter, you will quickly ruin people. China isn't the biggest adversary in this fight, it's the tyranny of distance.

I don't think it's that at all. I spend as much time working with our foreign partners as I do US people. What I do think is that they are coming to terms with is the fact that the US will not take the leading role in a fight in Europe, because the focus of the US will always be the Pacific. And that's nothing new. The "pivot to the Pacific" began under Obama. It's just that no one wanted to acknowledge that.

I think that history will give Trump credit for getting Europe to step up for its own defence. It will also record him as the most openly corrupt President ever.

Wake me up when they get the actual funds together. Spoiler: they won't.
