After the Washington Post reported that the U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika as a symbol of hate, the Coast Guard indicated that the swastika would remain considered a symbol of hate, the Post reported
"We don't deserve the trust of the nation if we're unclear about the divisiveness of swastikas," the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to a fear of reprisal.

Update: The U.S. Coast Guard reversed course, saying the swastika and noose were indeed hate symbols that are prohibited.
This came hours after The Post reported that the service was about to enact a new policy that downgraded those symbols.
