President Donald Trump said he won't impose a promised tariff increases on European countries starting in February if a new deal with Greenland can be "consummated." "Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform Wednesday. "This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations. Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the Tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on February 1st." Trump did not provide specifics as to what the "solution, if consummated," will be.

He's making a deal to get mineral rights in collusion with his long-time friend who has invested in them in Greenland.

"How a billionaire with interests in Greenland encouraged Trump to acquire the territory

US president's friend Ronald Lauder " who first proposed Arctic expansion " is now making deals in the island

Like many of those around the president, Lauder's policy suggestions appear to intersect with his business interests. As Trump has ratcheted up his threats to seize Greenland, Lauder has acquired commercial holdings there.

Lauder is also part of the consortium whose desire to access Ukrainian minerals appears to have spurred Trump to demand a share of the war-torn country's resources."

Threaten and or invade a country, take their resources of oil or minerals, get a split from your buddies.

... He's making a deal to get mineral rights ...

I had suspected his interest in Greenland was minerals.

Just like his interest in Venezuela was oil.

To quote West Coast Fellow Traveler (and cat-lover extraordinaire) LegallyYourDead:

"Billionaires shouldn't be allowed to live."

If this empty-headed good-for-nothing oligarch who INHERITED a Mammon-sized fortune from his mother was the imbecile who put this idiotic idea into the head of the good-for-nothing oligarch who INHERITED a Mammon-sized fortune from his father, Ronald Lauder should be pilloried from head to toe for causing all this chaos.

Or barbequed alive.

And I know how to cook.

Everybody now bring your family down to the riverside
Look to the east to see where the fat stock hide
Behind four walls of stone the rich man sleeps
It's time we put the flame torch to their keep
Burn down the mission
If we're gonna stay alive

"Gov. Newsom denied entry to USA House in Davos amid pressure from White House, spokesman says

KCRA 3 reached out to the State Department, the White House and Fortune for comment.

"No one in Davos knows who third-rate governor Newscum is or why he is frolicking around Switzerland instead of fixing the many problems he created in California," White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said, using a disparaging name for the governor.

Kelly has not yet responded when asked whether that meant the White House did not deny the claim.

NATO leaders are probably learning it's better to play along and keep throwing up roadblocks and delays rather than simply telling Trump to go f*&^ himself.

Hope is he'll choke on his Big Mac and they'll forget it all ever happened.

My understanding is that it will cost like a trillion dollars to BEGIN to reap profit from Greenland's natural resources.

Just a reminder that if they WERE accessible, they would already be being mined.

I wonder if our good friends in Canada (or other countries) allowed the governor of a state whose economy is the fourth largest in the world to speak. California overtook Japan to become the world's fourth-largest economy.

Saw an interesting take on this whereby it's not the physical oil/minerals that are necessarily what's valuable or sought after, it's having ownership of them to plausible call them an asset that is valuable.

This allows companies to inflate balance sheets with claims of oil leases being multi-billion dollar "assets," which is why energy corps want leases for purchase but haven't actually explored/drilled/opened new production wells for years.

Are Rare Minerals really worth it in Greenland?

www.google.com

But Trump and his partner (see post #1) will make money no matter how much the cost is... they'll just write off losses as ya do.

And the risk is at least as bad in Ukraine.

"Well, we have a concept of a deal. I think it's going to be very good deal for the United States, also for them, and we're going to work together on something having to do with the Arctic as a whole, but also Greenland, and it has to do with the security, great security, strong security and other things," Trump said on CNBC."
