More from the OpEd...

... Billboard has made the decision that "Texas Hold Em" and "16 Carriages" are country songs. This is divergent from the decision than Billboard made when Beyonce released her 2016 track "Daddy Lessons" that some also claimed to be country. Billboard also came to this decision despite the original metadata on the tracks being marked as "pop" by Beyonce's label. In the Billboard article officially announcing Beyonce's #1, the publication even starts off by describing her as a "Pop and R&B/hip-hop superstar."

Sure, if a Black woman either native to country music or coming up through the country music ranks would have achieved a similar goal, it would speak to the opening up of the genre to women of color. But that's not what's happened here at all. Instead, Beyonce is leveraging her global superstar status earned in the pop and R&B/hip-hop world, the enthusiasm of her Stan army the Beyhive, and the coercion of country music's institutions to ensconce herself atop the genre. ...

The OpEd reads like a whole lot of sour grapes to me...

It sounds like white grievance belittling the method by which she arrived,
and warning about the 'Beyhive'. Foolishness...

Maybe old white men have to realize they don't control the music genre
anymore, across almost any spectrum (except the blues). More and more
much of the music industry leans towards women and teen aged girls...

There are a few Black women in country, they just aren't getting noticed. Maybe Beyonce can help elevate some of these women:

I don't think it reads like sour grapes. It's the truth. She isn't on top of country charts because country listeners made her a megastar and put her there. She's there because she is a megastar and her fans put her there. This isn't your typical country music either - note the lack of twang. Feels more like a traditional southern black song than country too.

Sorry but overall I am getting tired of this country cross over ---- being pushed currently. Country stars trying to be rock/pop stars but singing with that twang that apparently every country singer needs to have and others pushing into country. I get why it is being done but I have never liked it. It is just commercialization to me.

Beyonce can see the the easiest group to fleece is the trailer park crowd.

So, I absolutely despise country music. That stupid twang voice is nauseating. And I have no intention of listening to this or any other country song if I can possibly avoid it.

But hey, if she can win the whatever this is, good for her.

"Feels more like a traditional southern black song than country too."

I'm not a country fan, but I spent part of my youth in the "Blackbelt" of rural Alabama, and have cousins who grew up mixing rap with country. There is nothing new about that sound. Beyonc's new songs go right down that line and will do very well with that crowd, and a lot of young rural kids who are more diverse with each generation.

It'll be funny that some MAGAts will start crushing on Beyonce, feeling very uncomfortable about doing that Vaseline and tube sock thing in Mommy's basement while watching Beyonce videos on YouTube. I'd love to see black women take over the Country "Music" culture like they have pop music. That'll leave the MAGAts with only dried-up former rock stars Kid Rock and kiddy diddler Ted Nugent to claim as their cultural "icons.".

#11 Maybe someday you'll muster up the courage to move out of your mother's basement and livea life of your own, then you too will have experiences to share, instead of just bitterly lashing out at others.
