Senate Republicans' breathtaking cruelty is hidden in your tax returns Millions of children would have benefitted from an expanded tax credit, but GOP senators had other ideas.

"At the end of January, the deal easily passed the House, 357-70. Endorsements poured in from all sides. But progress stalled out in the Senate, where the bill has languished ever since.

Led by Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo, the senior Republican on the Finance Committee, Republican senators have claimed to be negotiating in good faith.

However, the changes they've demanded would scuttle Democratic support for a bill already tilted toward corporate tax breaks or require finding entirely new sources of funding.

The day the deal passed the House, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, let the mask slip:

"Passing a tax bill that makes the president look good " mailing out checks before the election " means he could be re-elected," he told reporters, "and then we won't extend the 2017 tax cuts."

.

Give Republicans the choice between helping children and families or kowtowing to their corporate donors?

You know how that's going to turn out.

You want to fund a forever war in Ukraine, or fund child tax credits here in the USA?

At $35T in debt, no one should be questioning the scaling back of spending - especially with inflation knocking at the family door.

Fund a forever war?

No.

Just long enough to defend democracy.

Your party sounds like Bush Jr. and Cheney more and more every day.

No one involved in that war is hitched to anything other than making a dollar... And it will never end as long as gullible people foster public support for it.

Funny how those on the Right are so protective of the unborn, but once out and into the world, they have little time, patience, care or love of the youngest and most vulnerable among us. Childhood and poverty? Mom and dad--get a job. Death by firearms among the youngest? Well, it's too soon to talk about this. Exploiting under-age workers? Well, those small fingers are helpful in a slaughterhouse. No child care tax credits? Poor people don't have jobs so they don't need tax breaks...

Democracy will die under a mountain of debt.

Why isn't the tax credit progressively less the more you earn?

It's strange trying to bring up lower incomes to higher incomes credit.

Just cut the credit for higher incomes, and use that money to help the lower incomes.

You would think you commies would learn. (But I am so glad you can't!)

Ronnie Rayguns proved that old Russian trope to be totally wrong.
