More from the article ...

...

- - - The party has its lowest favorability ever.

- - - No popular national leader to help improve it.

- - - Insufficient numbers to stop most legislation in Congress.

- - - A durable minority on the Supreme Court.

- - - Dwindling influence over the media ecosystem, with right-leaning podcasters and social media accounts ascendant.

- - - Young voters are growing dramatically more conservative.

- - - A bad 2026 map for Senate races.

- - - Democratic Senate retirements could make it harder for the party to flip the House, with members tempted by statewide races.

- - - There are only three House Republicans in districts former Vice President Harris won in 2024, a dim sign for a Democratic surge. There were 23 eight years ago in seats Hillary Clinton won.

- - - And, thanks to the number of people fleeing blue states, the math for a Dem to win the presidency will just get harder in 2030.

Why it matters: Both parties " after losing the White House, Senate and House " suffer and search for salvation. But rarely does healing seem so hard and redemption so distant.

- - - Doug Sosnik -- a senior adviser to President Bill Clinton, and widely followed thinker on political megatrends -- told us this is Dems' deepest hole in at least the 45 years since Ronald Reagan's victory in 1980. Sosnik said the 2024 election was at least as much a repudiation of Democrats as it was a victory for Trump.

Emanuel told us Democrats have to stop being a liberal-only party for liberal-only voters: "We used to have liberal, moderate and conservative Democrats. Now we're basically a liberal party, because African American and Hispanic voters went out the back door. They're the ones who walked as we became more liberal."
Nail on the head.

Dems need to focus on the stuff that matters to most Americans instead of chastising and lecturing voters on how they are deficient.

Bill Clinton did an excellent job at that. Maybe Manchin or some other Dem from a southern or other sheethole state can pick up the banner.

Oh, and no more Dem ladies for prez, please. They had two terrible nominees in the last three presidential elections because "it was their turn."

Latino and Black males can't stomach it; hurts their fragile egos. Time to cater to the lowest common denominator so we can get a Dem in the Oval Office and try to right the ship that the GOP is so insistent on sinking.

For the moment, I like Pritzker. Or AOC. Newsome is done, Schumer is feckless. Who are the most popular politicians in America? Sanders? AOC? Why are they the most popular?

I heard one commentator say that fmr Pres Clinton was a Liberal in his heart, but a Conservative (the pre-MAGA definition of Conservative) in his head.

How's the Dem bravery working out so far? Locked out of all three branches of government with the GOP attacking century old progressive policies like social security, environmental laws, health care, etc. Disenfranchising voters left and right so Dems have next to no chance of regaining that kind of power in a generation.

But the Dems are Sooooo very brave! Putting up candidates based on what they have between their legs, even though a sizeable chunk of their own base can't stand those candidates for that very reason. Someone catch me, I'm going to swoon!

What do you mean the Democratic party needs to not be liberal?? There are very few liberals in the Democratic party and they get relegated to the back burner. Nah. The Democratic party needs to stop being Republican lite. That's what is killing the Democratic party. Not that it's too liberal. Just sayin.

It wasn't my bright idea to make women think they were entitled to the Dem nomination.

But reason would suggest that the lefty folks who are unable to manage to win with even the the more liberal party (Dems) are unlikely to pull off a win with the more moderate voters of the general election.

Bill Clinton teamed with Newt Gingrich to settle on some legislation that's been horrid for communities of color in the long run. Yeah, that Gingrich, who 30 years ago was advocating his Contract on America and codifying the vilification of Democrats. preTrumpian.

That Clinton. First black president, my lily white ass.

And if it wasn't for the one drop rule, Obama wouldn't qualify either.

And responses like this are why the Dems are losing. I cant imagine this jackass really thinks the Democrat party isn't liberal.

Problem is, she is using a definition of liberal that's not progressive, so it ends up making her look like an idiot.

Calling it how it is.

A sizeable portion of the Dem base/general election likely supporters will never vote for a woman. And others have difficulty voting for candidates from non-sheethole states (e.g., Massachusetts or California) because they feel those candidates are out of touch or because of insecurities regarding their own states.

Dems gotta take all that, and more, into account when figuring which candidates to field in the general election.

#21 | Posted by censored at 2025-03-25 08:24 AM | Reply

The reason is simple.

Dems can promote social causes on the liberal side but don't promote the liberal causes that drive voter turn out: workers.

They sold out to corporate donors. Even Harris scaled back her messaging to appease corporate overlords.

Why should working people vote for the Democrats other than to oppose Trump?

"Newsome is done"...is he? Or is he playing 4D chess. He sees a lot of getable young male voters in the podcast sphere. He has a new podcast, how do you attract a different audience from the Pod Save or other liberal podcasts who are basically only speaking to liberals? Get Kirk and Bannon and other voices influential in MAGAtland, introduce yourself to their listeners, sound reasonabel while you show the liberals who will listen to your podcast how insane they are. If Newsom plays this right he could peel off a chunk of the softer Rogan bros, and bring them back to the Dems. He is the liberal governor of one of the most liberal states in the country, time to tack to the center for a Presidential run. After all, he will have to win all those Biden to Dotard swing states. How do you do that? In 2025 you do that in exactly the way he currently is. I don't like it, but I understand it.

With support of rulings like "you can't deport criminal illegals" and "you can't keep mentally ill people out of the military" also "you can't cut government fraud waste and abuse of taxpayer money" what do the Democrats have to worry about?

#34 | Posted by THEBULL at 2025-03-25 06:02 PM | Reply

With support of rulings like "you can't deport criminal illegals"

That's not it.
It's: You can't black bag criminal illegals, or anyone else for that matter, to deport them.
All that's being asked is due process.

And we know the reason you're saying with criminal illegals is because citizens are next to go. We know that because Trump said it.

You want tyranny, not quite sure why. Are you a Saudi national?

Oh you poor dear! Show us on the doll .. where did those mean ole Dems touch him?

The prosecutors and courts tried to hold Trumpy accountable for his crimes.

Congress tried to hold Trumpy accountable for his crimes.

Now it's entirely just up to the courts. Because Congress has capitulated its responsibilities to the Lyin King. And if King Trumpy were to have his way there will be no more opposition from the courts.

When a Democrat commits a crime I expect him to also be held fully accountable by whomever is in charge atm.

But this whole revenge and retribution policy will not end well for republicans.

Just as the whole McCarthy and red scare era did not end well for those who perpetrated their lies on the American public and destroyed the lives and careers of fellow Americans for political gain.

Snoofy I'm pretty sure the lefts stance is more in line with sanctuary cities than "All that's being asked is due process."

And that drives away moderates.

"Snoofy I'm pretty sure the lefts stance is more in line with sanctuary cities than "All that's being asked is due process."

So you're using your disdain of the left, and their pushing away moderates, a good enough reason to deny due process.

Let's be clear: You think they are getting all the due process they derive, when they get snatched off the streets and placed in detention, without so much as a hearing.

Yes or no, KWRX25.

Right to due process
What the law says: The Fifth Amendment states that "no person ... shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law."

The issue of due process is at the heart of many immigration cases, including Reno v. Flores, the 1993 Supreme Court case that has returned to the spotlight with the surge in family separations. The case led to an agreement requiring the government to release children to their parents, a relative or a licensed program within 20 days.

In the ruling, Justice Antonin Scalia wrote "it is well established that the Fifth Amendment entitles aliens to due process of law in deportation proceedings."

Are you further to the right of Scalia, KWRX25?

#44 | Posted by Alexandrite at 2025-03-27 10:38 AM | Reply

And there's the problem Snoofy, I didn't say that people are FOR denying due process. The lefts spinning of the situation, claiming that all they want is due process after years of open borders and sanctuary cities is blatantly disingenuous.

You then spin it that if people don't agree with you, or hold any other position that they are defacto for the bad actions of the other extreme, the far right.

Which leads into answering Alexandrite... we are against that too. The right is making the mistake of seeing moderates flee the left, and are overplaying their hand, swinging the pendulum back the other way prematurely.

The moderate right could have enjoyed years of a majority, but they're seemingly fumbling that away too.

Whichever party can court the growing middle while tempering their extreme wings will be the party to attract the moderates next election cycle.

#45 | Posted by kwrx25 at 2025-03-27 10:42 AM | Reply

"Snoofy I'm pretty sure the lefts stance is more in line with sanctuary cities than "All that's being asked is due process."

So those are dots, along the same line.

The line starts with "due process" which Republicans don't support any more and frankly never have.

Once you believe in due process, it becomes clear how taking any opportunity to place criminal sanction on undocumented persons makes the community less safe, because now undocumented crime victims are easy marks for criminals, knowing that their victims won't dare come forward because they will be deported. The police themselves could shake them down, for example, and there would be no recourse, for if they complain, they just get deported.

So, if you like a permanent underclass, and Republicans always do, then naturally you oppose Sanctuary Cities because you believe people you don't like should have to live like Anne Frank.

KWRX25, I know you're smart enough to understand everything I said. Can you explain why you don't agree with it? I'd love to know why I'm in the wrong here.

"The lefts spinning of the situation, claiming that all they want is due process after years of open borders and sanctuary cities is blatantly disingenuous."
