This is like when the fat dude tries to stage dive and instead of the audience catching him, the masses give way like Moses patting the Red Sea, and he lands crumpled on the floor.

Is there anybody running for NYC Mayor who isn't garbage? The only other opponent I know of is Andrew Cuomo

The criminal case compelled Adams to leave the Dems to become an independent?

Why not the GOP? Their leader and Orange Messiah (PBUH) is a 34-time convicted felon and adjudicated rapist. Adams would have fit right in.

#4 Most likely because HE SAID, "I firmly believe that this city is better served by truly independent leadership, not leaders pulled at by the extremists at the far left or the far right, but instead those rooted in the common middle, the place where the vast majority of New Yorkers are firmly planted"

You think Adams represents the average New Yorker?
You can't find New York on a map.
Adams has a 20% approval rating in New York.

Eric Adams was thoroughly corrupt as a cop and as mayor, good riddance.

Nothing says "common middle" quite like hanging with Trump, kissing his butt, and Trump's DOJ dropping federal fraud and bribery charges in a quid pro quo deal selling his official acts as mayor. A real man of the middle!

Oh no, you didn't literally say it.

... he will pull out of the city's Democratic primary and instead run for reelection as an independent ...

From what I've been seeing on the local NYC news, It looks like Mayor Adams has not a chance to win the Democratic primary. He is behind the leader in the recent polling for that primary.

So for him the choice seemed to be to lose in the Democratic primary, or try running as an independent.

He should run as a republican, he'd win the primary.

... Eric Adams Quits Dem Party, Will Run as an Independant ...

While that headline is correct, Mayor Adams has stated he is still a Democrat.

www.cbsnews.com

... Adams confirmed his 2025 campaign in a six-minute video posted on social media.

"Although I am still a Democrat, I am announcing that I will forgo the Democratic primary for mayor and appeal directly to all New Yorkers as an independent candidate in the general election," Adams said, adding, "There isn't a liberal or conservative way to fix New York, but there is a right way and a wrong way and true leaders just know the right path [if] they have the guts to take it."

Adams will bypass the crowded Democratic primary, which includes former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. ...

Not too terrible, considering the entire DNC is sitting at 21% approval. The smart thing to do was to leave the party.Rats like you see the value in riding the ship to the ocean floor.

@#15

Yeah, I have questions ...

For starters, let's suppose Mayor Adams wins as a Independent. What is to prevent him from saying, after that election, ~ya know what, I'm now a Republican. And I'll continue to suck up to Pres Trump.~

And then there is the big question for me ... fmr Gov Andrew Cuomo is in the lead in the Democratic primary polling?

That, imo, sleazebag?

Wow.

That's why you prefer to point the finger at yourself.

@#18 ... The entire party is in the -------, ...

I look at the recent special election results in Wisconsin and Florida, and I have to disagree.

Especially the Florida results. Yeah, the Democratic candidates did not win, but look at the percentage margin of winning by the Republican candidate.

For that to happen in deep-Red Florida districts?

Yeah, my guess would be that the Republican Party has concerns.

Florida election exposes deep divisions within GOP
www.axios.com

... Republicans survived Tuesday's special elections for two congressional seats in Florida, but the races exposed deep frustrations in President Trump's team over the House GOP's political apparatus.

Why it matters: The growing angst comes as Republicans are holding onto a narrow congressional majority in an uncertain political environment.

- - - It's also unfolding as Democrats looking to the 2026 midterms were heartened by Tuesday's closer-than-expected results in Florida " and by a Democrat-backed state Supreme Court candidate in Wisconsin who overcame Elon Musk's massive spending for her opponent. ...

Indeed, I would not be surprised if the Democratic campaigns going forward would want to Mr Musk to participate in (a.k.a., try to buy) more local elections ...

"The criminal case compelled Adams to leave the Dems to become an independent?"

Adams was under serious investigation and Bondi put an end to it, quid pro quo, as long as he played ball on assisting with deportations.

That angered the Dem base big time. Setting aside the base's love of unfettered illegal immigration, the corrupt nature of the nod/wink quid pro quo surely rubbed more moderate Democrats the wrong way.

When the base of the party AND the moderates of the party are against you, for different reasons, you become dead to the party. So his only real hope of furthering his political career is as an independent - this guy is absolutely not a Republican.

@#24 ... That angered the Dem base big time. ...

Nah.

From what I see on the local NYC TV I view each evening ...

The Democratic base was fed up with Mayor Adams sucking up to Pres Trump in the hope of a pardon or dismissal of his case.

So fed up that they turned to the obnoxious fmr Gov Cuomo for relief.

And, fwiw, the Judge in that case saw through the Trump extortion attempt when he dismissed the case "with prejudice."

www.cbsnews.com

... Judge Dale Ho has agreed to the U.S. Department of Justice's request to drop the charges against Adams, but he did so "with prejudice." That means Adams cannot be re-tried on the same charges at a later time - a stipulation the Justice Department sought in its initial request to dismiss the case. ...

And lacking that support from the Dems, Mayor Adams decided his only option was to run as an independent.

Yeah, the corrupt agreement with Trump while he was on trial for corruption is pretty effing hilarious. Sums up the Trump administration well.

No, he's not a Republican, at least not in today's environment. Used to be room for liberal and moderate Republicans, but they've almost all been chased out with the advent of the Tea Party/Gingrich.

He's a perfect Trump Republican, though. Blind MAGAt loyalty to Trump above all else is the only requirement.
