Since March, the Trump administration has dismantled a leading office at the Department of Homeland Security whose mission was averting terrorism and targeted violence. It also comes as high-profile acts of political violence have surged in the United States.

"Whether it's Trump, congressional Republicans or congressional Democrats, respondents do not have much confidence in their elected leaders.

Overall, Trump gets just a 43% job approval.

His handling of immigration mirrors his overall rating, and people have even less faith in his handling of foreign policy (41%) or the economy (39%)."

Yeah, but what a Great Guy he is! Just a wonderful human being, honest as the day is long, and a President that we can be proud of*!!

(*on alternate Tuesdays if he's not hawking his latest overpriced Chinese perfumes and phones and bibles and guitars and.... ad infinitum on Truth Social, betraying Ukraine for Vlad, or destroying democracy)

So what?

OK, let me take a different approach from my playground retort ...

What can those who are concerned about Democracy in the Country do?

I think that "poll" is a bunch of B.S.

I think most Americans know the United States isnt a democracy, only liberals believe that because they have been lied to.

This "poll" just seems like something a liberal/democrat would believe.

"I think most Americans know the United States isnt a democracy"

Why did the Senate just vote on BBB if we are not a democracy?

Dude.

We have (or had) what's called a representative democracy, Major B; a combination of a republic with democratic elements.

www.google.com

Of course, with Trumpers merely extending the Establishment Republican Corporate Family Values of Oligarchy and Militarism, and since politicians now represent Oligarchs First, not the People, we really don't have either a republic or a democracy now.

We have a Fascist state; a far rwing political movement of populist nationalist racist authoritarians led by a Cult Leader who is funded by billionaires.

Just like the Good Ol' original America Firsters who supported Nazism in Germany and the US... so same as now.

The wannabe fascists have been bleating the "US is not a Democracy" trope to dumb down the rest of the public into accepting fascism, and enough of the public fell for it

Is that what you think.

I just visited three American WWII cemeteries filled with Americans who died in a fight for democracy.

It's no exaggeration to state that you spit on their graves.

Let me tell you something about those cemeteries in France, Holland, and Luxembourg.

People still go there to weep over the dead, and most of those are not Americans, but locals still grateful that America helped by them THEIR democracies.

"This "poll" just seems like something a liberal/democrat would believe."

It's very true but, to be fair, Reps cling to every single poll that matches their narrative as well. I've seen you do it on here and others, as well. While it may feel today that liberals have a monopoly on hypocrisy, it takes wise people to understand that that isn't an excuse to be hypocritical. Be better than them, not just like them.

Well, I didn't vote in the last election because I didn't like either candidate, so this poll thing doesn't affect me...
--Far, far too many Americans

Well, I'm still for Trump but I didn't vote for some of the things he is doing...
--MAGA fools with sawdust in their heads

I told you so. I knew this would happen. Now pardon me, I have to go buy a gun...

I wonder why a hypocrite would bother critiquing my hypocrisy unless he is a hypocrite having a hypocritical fit.

Stand up for your country, HUMTAKE. I wish I could say that it won't kill you but TRUMP/MAGA has assured that it might.

SCOTUS: "What's Democracy?"
Trump: "Nothing important."
MAGAts: "Choke me harder, Daddy Trump!"

Interesting since Kamala was going to try and ban weapons.

See, that's how a liberal thinks...

Be thankful for the Republican the option for you to buy the weapon is still there.

We have (or had) what's called a representative democracy, Major B; a combination of a republic with democratic elements.

No, we are a constitutional republic, with democratic traditions at the local level.

You are almost there though.

"No, we are a constitutional republic, with democratic traditions at the local level."

No?

How are you this wrong about such basic stuff?

But take away the No, and your stuck-up bitch attitude, and you're just about right.

We have democracy at the Local, State, and Federal level.

More to the point, being a Republic does not exclude being a Democracy. It's not an either-or. We are in fact both a Republic and a Democracy.

Is your brain really too small to accept these not even barely nuanced details?

Interesting since Kamala was going to try and ban weapons.

The same way Obama "tried" for 8 years while you pussies screamed?

Meanwhile, the only ban was from trump. That got thrown out in court.

You are too fucking stupid to educate Snoofy,

So I give up..

I cant talk to someone who doesnt understand that we are NOT a democracy at the federal level, we send REPRESENTATIVES to vote for us.

Dumbass

"I cant talk to someone who doesnt understand that we are NOT a democracy at the federal level, we send REPRESENTATIVES to vote for us."

Now, you're on to something here, but you're just not broad enough in your understanding of what "democracy" means.

What we have is called "representative democracy." It's still democracy. Democracy has five definitions in the ol' dictionary. Maybe y'all oughta invest in one.

democracy
[dih-mok-ruh-see]
noun
plural democracies
1 government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.
2 a state having such a form of government.
The United States and Canada are democracies.
3 a state of society characterized by formal equality of rights and privileges.
4 political or social equality; democratic spirit.
5 the common people of a community as distinguished from any privileged class; the common people with respect to their political power.

So Boaz it really does sound like you actually reject all of those definitions of Democracy.

But I think this is different than splitting hairs.
Instead, you have chosen to stand on principle.

There's something about democracy which you don't like.
So you don't want to acknowledge we are a representative democracy.
