"But this year, even among Republicans, views on immigration have grown significantly rosier " 64% of Republicans now believe immigration is a good thing, a 25-point jump from June of 2024.

The fraction of Republicans who think immigration should decrease has fallen from 88% to 48% in that time span.

Trump's immigration policies are broadly unpopular, with just 35% approving of his handling of the issue, according to the poll."

Yum... tasty Trumper tears!

No one could have predicted that kidnapping citizens, legal residents, non-criminals, and others just because of their skin color... and shipping them to Somalia would prove to be unpopular, even with Republicans.

Woof. That's significant, and not at all lost in the margin or error.

What might be behind this apparent major change of opinion among Republicans?

@#3

OK, even that -3 spread is not A Good Thing for the main issue of his campaign.

That leads me to ask, does Pres Trump's apparent doubling down on his deportation rhetoric help or hurt the public opinion of his job performance?

The Gallup Poll at the thread link is a single newer poll and... the 3 point spread you note is an Average for over a month beginning 6 weeks ago.

@#5

Yup.

Trends, not instances.

That's why I prefer RCP polls. Yeah, they may take a week or two to "catch up" with most recent polls, but that's A Good Thing,, a single poll may not have sway.

OK, that aside, let's dive into the Gallup poll ...

Surge in U.S. Concern About Immigration Has Abated

... These findings are based on a June 2-26 Gallup poll of 1,402 U.S. adults, including oversamples of Hispanic and Black Americans, weighted to match national demographics. ...

So, registered voters?

Or, likely voters?

Or just a random adjusted sample?

At this point, it seems to be the latter.

"Trump's mass deportation is backfiring

Trump has managed to become this unpopular on immigration despite historic lows in border crossings. And the data suggest that's largely tied to deportations and ICE.

To wit:

59% overall and 66% of independents disapproved of Trump's handling of deportations, according to the Quinnipiac poll.

56% overall and 64% of independents disapproved of the way ICE was doing its job, according to Quinnipiac.

54% overall and 59% of independents said ICE has "gone too far" in enforcing immigration law, per the Marist poll. (Even 1 in 5 Republicans agreed.)

Americans disapproved 54-45% of ICE conducting more raids to find undocumented immigrants at workplaces, according to a Pew Research Center poll last month."

I dont know who you people are. No one I know is having a problem with what Trump is doing with immigration.

And I do believe most Americans are fine with LEGAL immigration.

You people want so bad to be the majority of America. You are not. And that's where you make your mistake. We are not a mob democracy. We are a Republic.

The individual and the minority is protected from the majority in our form of government.

Suck on it libs.

You mean a positive swing for globalist and those that want America to be third world country.

Nobody is suprised you support ICE detaining American citizens with no charges filed.

I am little bit unsure why you aren't out there doing it and making all kinds of money.

This is your chance to hurt the people who need to be hurt!

It WOULD be rather humorous if 1Nut was kidnapped offa the street and Deported to Somalia.

Somalia wouldn't think it was funny, though. They do have Standards.

Boaz doesn't understand that no one has a problem going after violent criminals and strengthening the border.

Boaz doesn't understand that -------, to get his numbers, is going after LEGAL immigrants.

Boaz doesn't understand that Americans have no interest in seeing hard working immigrants, be they day laborers, farmers, builders, small business owners, hassled, imprisoned, put in concentration camps or shipped to countries in the midst of civil wars or corruption.

Boaz doesn't understand that his opinions are in the minority, because Boaz is not very bright you see. He has a simplistic, ignorant view of the world.

it would be sad (pathetic) if it weren't so dangerous.

Boaz thinks they could have just let this waste of a United States citizen rot in jail:

U.S. citizen DHS detained for 10 days has intellectual disabilities, family claims

On Monday, the Department of Homeland Security argued his arrest, which has attracted national attention, was a "direct result of his own actions and statements." A DHS spokesperson said Hermosillo approached a Border Patrol agent, said he had entered the U.S. illegally and identified himself as a Mexican citizen.

The department also posted a copy of Hermosillo's sworn statement on X in which Hermosillo responded "yes" when asked if he had entered the U.S. illegally. The document shows a child-like signature that reads "Jose."

In a phone interview Tuesday, Hermosillo's parents told CBS News their son suffers from intellectual disabilities, cannot read or write and has trouble speaking. They said he could not have possibly known what he was signing when he was detained.

In My Humble Opinion: The USA would be a much better country if it had a much higher percentage of Latinos living here. They are predominantly hard working, honest and mainstream.

"They are predominantly hard working, honest and mainstream."

That's why they have to go.

They are making the whites look bad.

"Boaz doesn't understand that -------, to get his numbers, is going after LEGAL immigrants."

I think Boaz understands that and supports it.
We can assume Boaz supports taking citizenship away from people too.
In his own words: Boaz supports Trump 100% on immigration, and these are the things Trump is doing on immigration.

"Americans' views on immigration took a massive positive swing this year"

America is 99% immigrants.

I shouldn't have to worry that mom's citizenship might get revoked since she wasn't born here and lived here on a green card for twenty years.

ICE would have no qualms sending her to the concentration camp over a paperwork discrepancy from fifty years ago.

Congratulations, Republicans!
You Built That.

And I do believe most Americans are fine with LEGAL immigration.

Just not Tom Hobag who has his gestapo kidnap LEGAL immigrants at immigration check ins.

"The questions pollsters asked " whether immigration should be kept at its current level, increased, or decreased, and whether immigration is good or bad for the country " did not specify legal or illegal immigration."

Did not specify legal or illegal LOL.

"Did not specify legal or illegal LOL."

You're saying you can't answer the question for immigrants as a whole?
You are aware 40% of agricultural workers are illegal, right?

@324 ... Did not specify legal or illegal ...

That's the thing with long-term trend polls... the questions do not change over time because that would affect the validity of the trend.

What I found interesting in these results was the change of opinion by Independents...

From Gallup...

On the whole, do you think immigration is a good thing or a bad thing for this country today?
