"Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the presidency " it's clear they have decided to shut the government down, which is why they've entered into no good faith conversations with Democrats to try to reach a resolution," said Jeffries, speaking separately in New York Tuesday.

Jeffries, in a letter sent to Democratic lawmakers after the meeting's cancellation, said Trump "chickened out" and, in an effort to pressure House Republicans in light of Johnson's scheduling move, told his members to return to Washington Monday for a caucus meeting to "to discuss the Republican healthcare crisis and possible lapse in government funding."

Trump will either get what he wants when the Dems cave, or he'll get what he wants when they don't cave (because he will then declare martial law and cancel midterms).

If they do own all 3, then Trump was correct to cancel the meeting. What would the point be? Why negotiate with such a strong hand?

Why would the Republicans, who "have all 3 branches of government" do that?

Do you guys even hear yourselves? how stupid you appear to be? Its like you've never negotiated anything in your life.

What you're saying is this is an adhesion contract, the person with all the power makes all the terms, so why would he meet to "negotiate" WTF is he negotiating? .

So it's not worth it to me.

Try reading the article or have someone read it to you. Or maybe just ask your AI how many democratic votes Republicans need to pass a budget.

For the stupid

to pass a budget the senate needs 60 votes, so that FORCES the magat scum to negotiate with dems.

Dems can filibuster and the government can shut down.

Dems should loudly demand, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week that the government will remain shut down until the most corrupt person in public life is impeached and removed from office.

It is an INCREDIBLY easy argument to make

1. The president has committed numerous crimes while in office.
2. The president continues to commit numerous crimes
3. The president will commit more crimes in the future
4. The president is destroying our country
5. The democrats must REFUSE to be a part of this corrupt fascist regime and the only power they possess is to withhold all money from all of these corrupt agencies
6. Make the argument to the American people constantly and at full throat
7. Make the choice clear, get rid of the most corrupt piece of ---- the country has ever seen and the government can return to normal.
8. The SC has give us no other choice.

Of course ------ will react with martial law, but that will be a clear overstepping of his authority and the republicans MUST be made to understand it is either ----ler or the constitution.

Remember ANY agreement that the magat scum agree to in order to get a budget deal will either be impounded by ----ler OR withdrawn upon a second bill that only needs 50 Senators

THE DEMOCRATS HAVE NOTHING TO GAIN FROM ANY AGREEMENT BECAUSE THE AGREEMENT WILL MEAN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

THE REPUBLICANS HAVE ALREADY GONE BACK ON AGREEMENTS MADE DURING THE SPRING BUDGET AGREEMENT

*** Dummkopf Trumpf White House in Utter Chaos ***

In the one hand, hundreds of GSA employees fired by DOGE are being asked to return to work by the Trumpf junta, a reversal of Felon Musk's cuts to the federal workforce. The rehired employees at GSA were given until the end of the week to accept or decline reinstatement and must return to work by 6 Oct. DOGE reduced staffing at the agency headquarters by 79%, cut 65% of portfolio managers and 35% of facilities managers.

But on the other hand, the Trumpf junta is instructing federal agencies to prepare reduction-in-force plans for mass firings during a possible government shutdown, specifically targeting employees who work for programs that are not legally required to continue. OMB will permanently reduce the government workforce if there is a shutdown and advised agencies to identify programs, projects and activities where discretionary funding will lapse on 1 Oct and no alternative funding source is available. For those areas, OMB directed agencies to begin drafting RIF plans that would go beyond standard furloughs, permanently eliminating jobs in programs not consistent with Dummkopf Trumpf's priorities in the event of a shutdown.

Democrats want this small "ask" so they can feel like they are using what little leverage they have to improve American lives for another fiscal year.

Good for them, that's what they are there for.

Schumer caved last time, and got nothing. He caught hell for it, and I doubt he'll cave this time. Why should he? Politics is transactional; just ask our President.

Republicans use their leverage to make people's lives worse. For example, the Republicans are threatening to mass RIF Federal employees if the Democrats do not cave. The consensus is that such an action would be illegal. RIF is a process that takes months of planning and coordination. This is the law, which is meant to protect Federal employees from stuff like this. So is the furlough pay, which would include any duration between getting fired and reinstated again. I know the Repubs think Federal employees are worse than rat bastards, but Feds are people too, with bills and families, etc.

If Repubs don't like the relatively small cost of the healthcare subsidy, debate it, play political games, but don't hold people's livelihoods hostage. I doubt there is an example of Democrats behaving like this.

Which makes Republicans even more despicable.

Worth repeating.

There are many laws protecting federal employees from political prosecution. Also under a RIF federal employee's are placed on a Reemployment Priority List which gives them priority rights to any local federal job openings.

And then when that occurs there is the whole seniority bumping chain of events that will occur. As one position is RIFed into another it will be "bumped" so that there is a chain reaction effect as jobs are shifted from one to another.

It will be a nightmare for OMB and chaos in every agency affected.

Which is in accordance with Project 2025 so maga morons will be filled with glee at the misfortune of so many other Americans and the destruction of their own government.

"Schumer caved last time, and got nothing."

We may disagree about the value, but Schumer definitely got something: it came to light the President has much broader powers to fire government workers during a shutdown.

Can you explain? They can't just EO a RIF. Employees would be notified 60 days in advance, there is "bump and retreat" like donner said, there is an appeal process.

The administration claims, specifically, that they will do a RIF.

It will be a nightmare for OMB and chaos in every agency affected.
Absolutely. And OPM. That's why it takes months. Both agencies are operating inside the caldera of a --- volcano.

What they might try is knit pick paperwork of individual employees. Run it through AI (so long privacy of key personal info) and have it spit out names. That will hardly be "mass" firings.

And how do they do this work when gov is shut down?

Apples and oranges.

We should be supporting Ukraine in its efforts to maintain its sovereignty but we are not Ukraine and we don't have to make excuses for what it is trying to do to survive.

Ukraine is at war. With a superpower nuclear armed neighbor who has infiltrated its borders.

Is America at war with a superpower who has infiltrated our borders?

It's been less than a year dumbass. Give it time.

You know what HAS happened?

Trump has personally pushed for investigations into perceived political enemies.

He has deployed the National Guard to U.S. cities like Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., and suggested sending active-duty military, in an attempt to militarize the homeland in violation of the U.S. constitution.

Issued executive orders to punish law firms involved in challenging the administration or with perceived ties to political opponents.

Revoked security clearances and terminating government contracts for firms like Perkins Coie and WilmerHale.

Issued executive order calling sanctuary city policies as a "lawless insurrections".

Ordered federal agents to arrest officials in Newark and New York City who were attempting to conduct oversight on federal immigration enforcement.

Repeatedly ignored or attempted to circumvent court orders particularly concerning immigration and deportations.

Abused his authority by invoking wartime and emergency powers during peacetime for issues like tariffs and immigration, which circumvent Congress's authority.

Weaponized the DOJ by appointments of personal lawyers to key roles and removal of experienced career officials.

Illegally forced federal employees into resigning (which unions have sued to block) in an attempt to purge the civil service of nonpartisan experts and replace them with party loyalists.

Attacked independent media. Even celebrating the suspension of a late-night show hosts and comedians and has used lawsuits and threats to pressure media outlets to control what they can say.

Undermined federal data bases by destroying removing data and firing the chief of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) after a jobs report was perceived as unfavorable in multiple attempts to control government information that he does not personally like.

Trump has targeted universities by withholding or threatening to withhold federal funds and research grants from universities, citing concerns over antisemitism. Faculty have since reported self-censorship as a result.

Slashed funding to agencies and programs that support democracy, civil society, and the rule of law abroad, including USAID, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), and the State Department's Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL).

Undermined global alliances by engaging in trade wars and undermined U.S. commitments to multilateral bodies like NATO and the Paris Climate Agreement, distancing the country from traditional allies.

And this is less than one year into the FAFO.

To be continued ...
