Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Timothy C. Senior, Bishop of Harrisburg, issued the following apology: "I was shocked and appalled to learn that the Halloween parade float from Saint Joseph Catholic school in Hanover included a replica of the Auschwitz Concentration Camp gate, bearing the words Arbeit Macht Frei.' The inclusion of this image, one that represents the horrific suffering and murder of millions of innocent people, including six million Jews during the Holocaust, is profoundly offensive and unacceptable. While the original, approved design for this float did not contain this imagery, it does not change the fact that this highly recognizable symbol of hate was included. On behalf of the Diocese of Harrisburg, I express my sincere apology to our Jewish brothers and sisters and to all who were hurt or offended by this display. I strongly condemn the inclusion of this symbol on the float." ~snip~

Which makes one wonder ..

Maybe Bill Johnson will know. He knows stuff!

Did the Nazis also get their strong "work ethic" for concentration campers from the Bible?

It seems the saying comes from the title of a German book about thieves and gamblers discovering redemption through working. Derived from John 8:31"32.

It is an interesting float, given its Halloween and you can see the cemetery, it's just proclaiming Nazis as evil.

Yet some are offended. Perhaps it's insensitive, but the message is clear Auschwitz was a horror.

Humorous people can run around calling everyone Nazis, but then get offended by a float declaring genocide a horror.

Is there a picture of the float somewhere?

There was a picture up earlier. They probably changed it at the request of the Church, since the Catholic Church isn't cozy with Trump like they were with Mussolini. It was a float being towed by a black pavement princess style truck. It very clearly has the gate, and the words.

Sounds like that school needs to put an emphasis on studies that include familiarizing students with and an understanding of the basics of the Holocaust in particular and effin genocide in general, pronto.

Seriously? No one "noticed" this while it was being built? Were they are working on it blind? The towing company didn't understand the significance? WTF?

"The towing company didn't understand the significance?"

There's got to be tens of millions of Americans who have no idea what is happening, or has ever really happened in history for that matter.

Fat, dumb, and happy. It's the American Dream.

The original OP had a photo of the rolling obscenity. Thank you Alexandrite for re-posting the pic.

The Keystone State was the home of the synagogue massacre (Pittsburgh, 27 Oct 2018), the assassination attempt on Dummkopf Trumpf (Butler, 13 Jul 2024) and the arson attack on the governor's mansion (Harrisburg, 13 Apr 2025). So I wondered if there is something in Pennsylvania's drinking water. Historians contend one of the reasons the Roman Empire may have fallen is because of lead poisoning. Here's what I found: Toxicities in Pennsylvania's Water.

Just food for thought-- nothing more, nothing less.
