NYC supermarket billionaire John Catsimatidis went nuclear in June, when Zohran Mamdani, who had proposed opening a cheap city-run grocery story in each of the five boroughs, won the democratic primary for mayor.

And this phatphuq made a Mammon-sized fortune from us New Yorkers. John Catsimatidis would not be welcome in his home country of Greece which demonstrates much more generosity and compassion towards poor and vulnerable people and has universal healthcare for all its residents.
Good riddance to bad rubbish. Don't let the door hit your fat superrich butt as you slink away, Jabba.

#3 | POSTED BY C0RI0LANUS AT 2025-11-08 07:04 AM | FLAG: Brilliant I say, Simply BRILLIANT as now the remaining businesses and taxpayers will have to pay more to offset the loss to the tax base.....
Businesses, as well as well as the wealthy relocating to a low tax and more business friendly state like FL, or TX is a smart move IMO.

Tax the billionaire caste until the poor have as good a medical system as the very rich. Then bring back the draft and have all citizens, male and female serve their country in order to be eligible for the new medical system. As it is, the inherited wealthy live as gods, and the poor live as permanent members of the refugee caste, in a country where shelter education and medical care are priced out of reach.

Gristedes has an industry average net profit for a grocery store, 1%-3%. If they're reconsidering it's because they're going to be given the contracts for the city grocery stores.
but, funding city grocery stores? and daycare? and free bus services? while freezing rent in a city where 25% of tax revenue comes from property taxes?
"Due to these fiscal cliffs and other underbudgeted ongoing costs, the Fiscal Year 2025 Preliminary Budget is short $3.6 billion to $3.9 billion annually of what would be needed to continue programs at the current services level.3 While the revenues are not available to support this level of spending, fully funding the current level of services grow the fiscal year 2025 annual spending increase to $6.0 billion, or 7.4 percent."
Seems unlikely.

All talk. What these billionaires don't realize is that when they leave, they leave a void. If their business was profitable, some body else will step in fill the void.
Supply meet Demand.

If he truly is a billionaire, down pricing his groceries to compete with the competition will barely make a dent in his bank roll. IF he truly is a billionaire, that is. My guess is he's bluffing just because he doesn't like being shoved around.
My second guess is that he didn't make his billions selling overpriced groceries. A glance at his investment portfolio would probably show he has a lot of other irons in the fire.
Or maybe he thought his vote for Andrew Cuomo was going to be his tail wind because . . . Trump.

That's also my view at this point.
Billionaires have now seem to have learned that they can become even more wealthy by sucking up to Pres Trump.

There's still the possibility of some Epstein dirt he's holding over some of their heads. Things like that tend to mushroom over to divorce court and nasty property settlements.

There's your answer.
NYC wants to impose an additional tax on all of it, not just NYC income. And If someone has a residence in NYS, they have to be out of the country for over 330 to be exempt.
Of course, SCOTUS requires the home state to credit local taxes paid ...
... IF local taxes were paid, AND the filer can prove it.

Thanks for the follow up.
I kinda figured that there was something else making this guy nervous other than the competition.
It didn't make sense for a seemingly successful businessman to suddenly push the panic button like that.

It's always the money with these self-involved shortsighters. And there's never enough of the stuff for them. When Abbie Hoffman tossed $1 bills onto the floor of the NY Stock Exchange ... Trading in the millions was disrupted as greed-pigs shoved one another aside to pick them up. Nope, never enough of the stuff. Ever.

It's a long way from being over. Trump's new scheme to target a whole swath of people ((who can't afford their health insurance premiums)) ~~ with his TRUMP Rx plot to sell cheap knock-off drugs, ~~ made in some foreign country ~~ that are not approved by the FDA and are (most likely) akin to a placebo with no medical value whatsoever.
Of course, he'll lie his --- off but sick and desperate people will do desperate things, so he'll get richer by killing off a few thousand more people ~ like a typical sociopath who hasn't a shred of empathy for anybody but himself.
Watch for the advertising on the web.

The guy is the embodiment of that phrase. The greedy gobbler who gets the biggest piece of cake. Then demands another, refusing the same to his guest. Just to prove he's a creature controlled by his uncontrollable appetites.
That's why the Epstein Files freak him out. It's also why he looks the way he does.
Jayzus, what a car wreck, and all self-inflicted in the name of vanity.
He's killing himself, which is okay. But he and his mob are also killing off our country, too. And that is most definitely not okay.

Filthy rich backers of three-time loser Andrew Cuomo, a modern day Judas Iscariot, burned $65 per vote to beat the Bronx High School of Science graduate, Zohran Mamdani. That includes $13.3 million from mega-oligarch Michael Bloomberg.
A blizzard of outside spending on ads, including an Islamophobic spot that idiotically linked Zohran Mamdani to 9/11, failed to move voters and may have even backfired: AIPAC Lost NYC.
What a crying shame.

Catsimatidis held a press conference with Bodega owners; publicly threatened to shut down his 30-plus stores
Here is the flaw in his logic...you cannot gouge NYC customers with stores in NJ.
