Calls to Mental Health Hotlines Rise as Farmers Buckle Under Stress

As farmers face historic headwinds and market hardships, calls to the national Farm Aid hotline and the Iowa Concern hotline -- where farmers can get support in times of mental health crisis or need -- are increasing.

After the end of brutal slavery in America, Reconstruction, and the work of the Freedmen's Bureau, in 2025 there are only ~40,000 Black farmers in the US (less than two percent of all American farmers).

So much for land reform in our democracy.

White farmers had generations to make and save money for themselves or sell their profitable lands to mega agri-corporations.

Ironically, it was a Man of Color named George Washington Carver who promoted crop rotation to help these majority white farmers who we are supposed to feel sorry for today because they are enduring hardships after voting for a white supremacist oligarch on Tuesday 5 Nov 2024.
