According to the report, the teen hid a small camera in a bedroom inside the house and received multiple movement notifications around 7:15 a.m. on Jan. 13 " indicating videos had been recorded. In the footage, deputies say Dingus could be seen smelling at least four pairs of the girl's underwear (two of which had been worn and were still unwashed) "for several seconds" as well as "touching his groin area over his clothes."

At the time of his arrest, Dingus had already been out on bond in a separate case that saw him indicted for aggravated assault and other charges in Bellville. According to officials, Dingus spotted a man who was trying to flee from police on July 11, 2025, and ran the suspect over with his car to stop him from escaping. Dingus has pleaded not guilty in connection with that incident, and the man involved was expected to recover from his injuries.

Dingus, 48, ascended from council president to mayor of Butler in 2022 following the resignation of Joseph Stallard. Stallard then attempted to get his old job back during the next year's election, but the village of less than 1,000 people chose to grant Dingus a full term with 56% of the vote.
