I've heard the ATC recording. It may *or may not* be as open-and-shut as it sounds, that an air-traffic controller had too much to keep track of and gave a fatal instruction. Investigation will give a fuller picture. Regardless, the ATC shortage is a crisis. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026 ...

... Images of huge chaotic lines at major airports in Atlanta, Houston, New Orleans and New York City caused by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workers calling in sick are rattling Republican senators who don't see an end in sight given the hard lines taken by both the White House and Senate Democrats during the funding stalemate.

While Republicans feel the shutdown was forced by Democrats, they also know their party owns the White House and both majorities in Congress and could suffer the blame " particularly amid the war with Iran that is already stoking political controversy.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a prominent conservative and an influential voice in the Senate GOP conference, has pushed colleagues to consider breaking up the Homeland Security appropriations bill to fund and reopen the TSA and other critical agencies immediately and use the budget reconciliation process later to increase funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, said Cruz's proposal to end the five-week standoff by setting aside funding for ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and reopening the TSA and other critical agencies is gaining momentum in the GOP conference. ...

I doubt if those cracks will amount to anything.

Just pre-election-day jitters.

The orange turd is happy to force hardship onto the TSA workers for two reasons... 1)he wants a funding bill tied to the voter suppression bill and 2) privatizing TSA is a goal of Project 2025 (more money for cronies).

Republican Senators John Kennedy and Ted Cruz had a tentative deal with Democratic Senators which would have gotten the funds DHS needed to pay TSA's payroll, but when Senator John Thune briefed Trump on what they were doing, Trump killed the deal as he refuses to sign anything which is bipartisan in nature. It's either a complete compilation by the Democrats or nothing (sounds familiar when it comes to Trump's Iran strategy):

Delta has cut their special services for Congress critters.

"Due to the impact on resources from the longstanding government shutdown, Delta will temporarily suspend specialty services to members of Congress flying Delta," Delta said in a statement to CNBC.

"Next to safety, Delta's No. 1 priority is taking care of our people and customers, which has become increasingly difficult in the current environment," the airline said.
