US consumer sentiment fell to a record low in May, underscoring that higher pump prices and rising costs from the US-Iran war continued to weigh on Americans' views of the economy.

Hassett, lying his ass off, claims Trump's Iran war hasn't actually hurt the economy: "It's just not there in the data, except for the consumer sentiment data, but actually I think we should stop calling it 'consumer sentiment' & start calling it 'political sentiment' because it's really political."[image or embed]

Americans are feeling worse about the economy now than they were during the COVID-19 pandemic, the financial crisis, and following the 9/11 attacks.

Let's see the MAGA ---------- on this site try to spin this.

This is a big problem. When consumers decide to slow their spending, the entire economy slows. When they feel bad for an extended period of time the only good thing that comes of it is a higher savings rate. Remember how the dolts in the administration touted record credit card use? If consumers start paying off their credit cards they are not spending in current terms, simply completing purchases made months ago. As higher fuel costs continue to seep into the economy those costs will weigh heavily on consumers for months, right up to and beyond the election. The 35% of voters who support Trump come hell or high water may not be able to overpower the Dem and swing voters sick of the inability of MAGA politicians to right the economy.
