Iran and US report new wave of strikes in Gulf

The US has said it struck Iranian military sites over the weekend while Tehran said it responded by targeting a US base, marking the third known escalations in a week around the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command (Centcom) said it launched "self-defence strikes" in response to "aggressive Iranian actions", which it said included a US drone being shot down over international waters. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) meanwhile said it had targeted an air base used by US forces for an attack on southern Iran, but did not say where.

... An Iranian missile strike injured several Americans at a Kuwaiti air base, according to a report Saturday, the latest escalation that could further complicate efforts to end the U.S.-Iran war.

Falling debris from an intercepted Iranian ballistic missile struck Ali Al Salem Air Base, causing minor injuries to about five Americans, including active duty personnel and contractors, Bloomberg reported.

One MQ-9 Reaper strike drone was destroyed and at least one other was seriously damaged, the report said.

The extent and exact number of injuries was not immediately available. Bloomberg said the attack occurred within the last 24 hours.

U.S. Central Command did not respond to emailed requests for comment Saturday. ...
